Default PSP Parappa the Rapper = Dissa the pointment

Now I'm usually the PSP's biggest supporter, to the dismay of 90% of the Digital Press membership. But I can't understand this move. Not too long ago Sony announced that Parappa the Rapper would make an appearance on the PSP, and low and behold, at the TGS they introduce ... a remake of the PS1 title. Now remakes of PS2 titles, I can take that. There isn't really another viable means of playing those on the road. But a remake of a PS1 title makes NO sense when you consider that the official PS1 emulator is supposedly coming out within months for the PSP. Does this mean that Parappa for the PS1 won't be supported through emulation? Probably. So instead of buying it again for a (hopefully) reduced price through Sony's online distribution system we've got to buy it again at full price on UMD. I'll still buy it, but I'm pissed at the laziness here. It's not like a new Parappa title would take several years of development time or anything ...

    Yes, actually, it likely would.

Sony's emulation is not going to include the entire library, so who knows if this one might have been on that list.

And PS1 or PS2 port, it really doesn't matter. It is yet another port for the system. But since it is Parappa The Rapper, I will let it slide.

Besides, the PS1 version was much better, in my opinion, than the one released for the PS2. Papappa 2 just didn't live up to the first one.

So for this case, I am glad they went with the PS1 version. Though a brand new Papappa would have been even better.

I'd much rather it be the PSOne version. The PS2 PaRappa was HORRIBLE. The songs wern't all that good, the levels wern't as funny, and it really just felt like a slapped together game.

At least theres suppose to be a graphics overhaul on the levels and characters so it should look a 'little' different.

Now if they just 'hid' Vib Ribbon in there or something then i'd have a true English version of the game that wasn't in PAL. That would make for a very happy me.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

You're telling me that a new Parappa title, using the same engine, would take 3 years of development time? Not if Sony was the slightest bit motivated to do it.

But the reason a PS1 vs. PS2 port DOES matter is that there isn't a viable means to make PS2 games portable, as there is with the upcoming PS1 emulator. To a guy playing his PSP in the living room, this might not make much of a difference, but for travelling, I can accept PS2 ports as they're the only alternative.

PS1 ports dont suprise me at all, Sony just hasnt been supporting the PSP as well as it should. But then with the PS3 probably taking up most of their resources thats no suprise either really.

Sony isn't doing much to debunk the conception that PSP is mostly just watered down Playstation ports and knock-off games.

Homebrew developers are actually working on their own version of a PS1 emulator, so hopefully we won't have to rely on Sony's. An alpha version of it was just released a couple of days ago. It runs very slow and still has a lot of work to go until a final, playable version is released but it looks promising.

Didn't think it was possible to make one at first given the limits of the PSP, but If Sony could release a full-speed PS1 emulator, I'm sure the homebrew people won't be far behind with their own.

BTW, I totally agree with PapaStu about Parappa 2 being a horrible game. It's waaaaay too easy and was the only game I've ever played thru beginning-to-end in one sitting.

Parappa 2 was a HUGE letdown. UmJammer Lammy is the true sequel in my book.

You didn't play Parappa 1 beginning-to-end in one sitting? The first was shorter...

I'll second these sentiments. The first game was hands above the sequel.

Was the second game on CD or DVD? I have it at home but can't remember right now.

If they're going to port, you may as well throw in as much as you've got. Imagine if they included Parappa 1, 2 and Unjammer Lammy all on 1 UMD? I'd never buy just Parappa 1 for PSP, especially since I've got it at home already, but a collection? I'd buy that in a second!

Uhhh, no. It might be shorter, but the difficulty in 1 was much harder. I still don't think I've played all the way thru it yet. Usually make it to the 4th or 5th level and get stuck there. The timing just gets way too tough for me.
