Man, those freaky robots at Showbiz used to scare the hell out of me when I was a wee lad. All the switches and motors were louder than the music; it was like some gotesque horror show to me.
Yeah not to mention that the robots were scary but everytime I went the pizza sucked on top of that
Intresting site, worth a click.
And the pizza there always rocked, imo.
Welcome to Macintosh.
Heh, those animatronic animals STILL scare me. :P
I never experienced Showbiz Pizza (at least from what I remember), but Chuck E. Cheese was a yearly birthday ritual for me. I would obsess over it for weeks, and I think I was more concerned with going there than getting presents.
Going through the characters, the ones that look familiar to me are Chuck E. Cheese (duh), Jasper T. Jowls, Pasqually, The Warblettes, Mr. Munch, Helen Henny, and The King. That's not to say I'm absolutely certain I saw all of them, nor am I completely ruling out the possibility that I may have seen some of the others. Other than Chuck, I am certain of The King. I distinctly remember all of the parents hanging out in the room with him, hehe. :) Or they'd be upstairs where all the arcade games and big screen TVs were, since it was relatively quiet there too. I think that's where I first played Donkey Kong.
On the subject of video games, it was at Chuck E. Cheese where my brother got his NES on one of his birthdays, which in turn was the first system I ever had exposure too.
I never did play the arcade games there all that much, though, nor did I like the change to ticket redemption games (which starting taking place around the last year or two I went).
Incidentally, I became obsessed with the cake from Chuck E. Cheese's, and even up until just a couple years ago (and I'm 24 now), I would ask my mom to get me cake from there on my birthday. Unfortunately, they changed it over the years, first going from chocolate to white, and then altering how the frosting tasted and felt. The frosting is what I liked best since it was really light and not too sweet like most cake frosting tends to be, so when that changed, that was the end of me having Chuck E. Cheese cake on my birthday. It was kind of amusing sending my mom into Chuck E. Cheese hell even when her youngest child, me, was already past 20, though. :P
heh, I remember thinking the animatronic animals were a bit creepy, but I didn't mind as I was a weird child like that :POriginally Posted by Aussie2B
Heck, I never heard of Showbiz Pizza before =P
Anyway, haven't been to CEC since December 2004. It was my cousin's 12th Birthday and I knew her and her friends love the prize games at CEC, so I took them and my then-girlfriend to the joint I used to kick it at more than a decade ago. It was mostly a sad depressing experience, not just coz the magic was gone but my GF and I had been drifting apart, and that night it was pretty clear the relationship was about over. A week later, we mutually ended it.
I probably won't go back to CEC again unless it's for a Birthday party or when/if I have my own kids.
Wow! They have pics of the one I used to go to as a child back in Austin! CLICK ME
That website is the creepiest thing I have ever seen in my life.

I use to go to Showbiz on my birthdays real young and it was fun as hell but the animatronics were scary, sometimes giving me nightmares. Anyone have a link to the youtube stuff? I got lost into some FAQ pages and never found a link to it and I'm at work so I can't just randomly search around on youtube, might come across something that IT wouldn't like.

I visited that site a while ago and it brought back lots of good memories. It turns out there are some very fanatical people that have managed to acquire a complete set of robots and set them up in their homes. I saw some pics on ebay a couple years ago of a couple of them without the fur and it was creepy.
I took my niece to Chuck E Cheese and it can't hold the jock of Billy Bob and the rest of the characters from ShowBiz Pizza
I loved that place, would give a left nut to go back in time to that era again
I remember walking into that place for the first time - circa 1982 and almost wanting to cry tears of joy.
Every video game you've ever heard of, and some you haven't, lined literally from wall to wall. And when you walked in they gave you a huge handful. Then they also gave your parents a bigger handful. I could've cared less about pizza.
Nowadays - you're lucky if you go into a Chuck E. Cheese with 2 videogames in it. And even those 2 don't work.
damn no edit -
a huge handful of tokens...
