Default Atari 7800 Missing In Action (MIA) Prototype UPDATE

We're moving Classic Gaming Expo (CGE) to Las Vegas - it's expensive. We could really use some relief to cover the costs of two trucks loaded with museum pieces and arcade machines from the northern CA area to Las Vegas.

So here's the proposition. We have this game that everyone seems to want but is a lot of work to get out to the public. It's called "Missing in Action" for the Atari 7800. We'll send along the original prototype cartridge, no strings attached (ie we're not going to release the game or distribute the ROM) and will even sign something to that effect if you require it.

    $5000.

    Interested? Email me.

UPDATE: I added a good general description of the game a few posts down if you're interested in the details!

I can't imagine ponying up for the whole proto, but being part of the "Move CGE back to Vegas" faction, if it comes down to a pass-the-hat situation I'll be more than happy to contribute something.

Just to be a penny-less punk, I am going to ask the question. Do you not have any other way to raise the five grand or is this the only thing you could come up with? Just curious. LOL

    Because I'm a penny-less punk I'll answer that.

There are LOTS of ways to raise money, but there's never enough money to do everything we want to do. The more we get, the better the show.

CGE Back in Vegas? OH FREAKIN YES!

Oh, and if you don't end up finding a seller, maybe you can do some kind of DP-wide fund raiser? Or maybe auction some extra items you're having a hard time moving at the DP Store? It would be sweet to do a real-time auction on vbender...

I received a phone call from someone on the AtariAge forums a few days ago asking about the specifics of this game. Naturally, my memory was a little fuzzy on this. Since the price tag is so high it's probably pretty important that the buyer understands the working condition of the game as well as some details about the gameplay itself.

The following synopsis comes courtesy of Sean Kelly who had the patience to spend some time with the game.

There are five different stages each with 2-3 sub-levels to them. For the most part, it's a beat-em-up although you do get a gun once in a great while. In one of the stages you are driving a gunboat. There's a boss at the end of some levels although not all of them.

There are two "cheats" or more likely debugging options. The left difficulty switch sets your character to invincible (which is how I played most of the game) and the right difficulty switch scrolls through all the levels in the game. With the right difficulty switch moved to the left, it will scroll through all the levels...once it gets to the level you want to play, you move it to the right and that level will begin.

The left fire button kicks, the right fire button punches. Pressing the left fire button when there is no enemy near you causes you to jump in the direction you are moving. Moving the joystick up causes you to jump straight up. Pulling the joystick down causes you to crouch where you can do some sort of leg sweep kick also.

This game has one of the funniest things I've ever seen in ANY VIDEOGAME! The last boss is some kid (he looks like a kid anyway) in a red jacket. He has about ten times as much health as any of the other enemies but he just stands there and every few seconds a little sign comes up next to him that says "Drugs Joe?". Funniest shit I've ever seen.

I played through all the levels and the game does seem to be complete. I didn't notice any graphical glitches nor did I experience and lockups or freezes. The game does have an ending. After you beat the "Drugs Joe?" dude, it goes on to thank you for freeing all the hostages and "Making the world safe from the vietnamese drug czar". There is even an "attract mode" that plays if you don't start the game right away. I'd estimate that the game is 100% complete except for the debug stuff that hasn't been removed, but it can be played normally by setting the difficulty switches correctly.

I'd agree but... my luck she'd get custody of every other game I own plus the consoles. The irony would not be lost on me.
