    Default $299 PS3 @ Walmart?!?! Opinions please

    http://www.walmart.com/catalog/catal...atNavId=542085
    (watch the flash animation)

Could this "typo" be used against Walmart? Or is Sony's launch price wrong? You be the judge...

I found the link on another forum I belong to, along w/ this quote:

"It's guaranteed now that I will get it for $299.82. I just got off the phone with Walmart.com and they made a note in my account, and are sending me an email!

    WOOO!!!!"

    Thought?

Typo, and don't think you are guranteed anything. Wal-Mart surely says something in their terms of service that they are not liable for honoring mistakes in their product listings.

    Default whoa

Wallmart has been known to leak info early, but it probably a typo. If the PS3 does launch at a cheaper price. Then all hell is going to break loose.

Yeah my money would be on wal-mart hell if it was not for wall world every gaming company would lose half of its revenue. I mean Wal-mart could get away with whatever it feels like and almost nobody can stop them. It reminds me of that crazy documentary I saw about the effects of wal-mart on communities. Has anyone else seen it that thing is crazy, especially when they go to China and show how big Wal-Mart is there.....Alright now I will stop rambling.

Sony trying to sue the nation's single biggest retailer would be like retail Hara-Kiri.

Why would Sony sue Wal-Mart? Selling a PS3 for $299 isn't illegal. If you want to buy them on launch day and sell them for half price, knock yourself out.

As for "being held to that price," I'll believe that when I see it.

Flack that is probably incorrect. Many manufactures will not allow independent pricing on their products without authorization. I am almost 100% sure that Sony would have a blanket contract and set a price for Playstation 3 products that would not allow retailers to sell for any price they choose or have ‘sales’ on their products.

So selling a PS3 for less than what Sony says is probably a breach of contract thus allowing Sony to sue.

Well then I will sue Sony for suing Wal-Mart on the grounds of defamation of libelous contractually habeas feloneous breach of binding judicial curfew pricing zone. SEE YOU IN COURT YOU MOTHERS.

Yeah, guys, it was a joke. Sort of playing off of the whole Lik-Sang vs. Sony ordeal.

Wont happend. The pre-orders at $500 and $600 were sold out in minutes so there is no need to lower the price to $299.

The 20gb model will cost about $430 in Japan tho.

Walmart reduced the amount for the dreamcast when they carried it without segas consent and they got in trouble for it. So I wouldn't be shocked if sony coudl do the same thing with their "deep pocket" lawers.

From an antitrust perspective, it seems vaguely like an instance of 'resale price maintainence'.

This is where A sells to B, stating in the contract B cannot resell the item below a certain price.
