I was going to post this last night but the forum died just before I hit the submit button...

    I'm going!

This will be my first arcade auction, and I could use some advice-

The flyer says it starts at 10:00, I assume that means "doors open at 10:00 as opposed to "bidding stars at 10:00"... what time is everyone showing up?

I should bring an extension cord with me, right? Anything else?
Are there people to help you load stuff into your truck?

How long do these things normally last?

Has anyone been to a Money Makers auction before? Do they have a good variety of games?

I'll ask more questions as I think of them. Who else is going?

Well, I have never been to an auction myself, but I would think a really long extension cord would be very very useful.

I think the doors might open a little earlier than 10:00 but I am not sure. I think somewhere in the fine print, it talks about doors opening at 7:00 for people to bring in their machines to set up for the auction. Don't quote me on that though.

I will try to call them if I get a chance and find out.

I wouldn't count on people being there to help you load, but if you win an auction, I would help you load it.
If I am not there, you could call me and I would drive there to help you. If you need my phone number, PM me.

Ohh one last thing, I have heard from someone who lives in Mt. Juliet that deals with arcade games alot, that the machines at this auction aren't the greatest. Some, if not most, have problems. I, personally, am looking for a good MAME project. So I am not too worried about condition as much.

Same here, I'm hoping to get a six-button dynamo cabinet, but the monitor has to be good because I don't want to fool with them. But I'm also in the market for a good tate cabinet. Hopefully a post-converted Galaga or something.

    Sounds like fun!

PSerge - I got your message right before the forums went down.

I didn't get to go. My whole family was in town. I had to babysit the rugrats, all day.

I went. Got me a nice Killer Instinct cab that was converted into a Street Fighter EX 2. I've spent the last three weeks MAMEing it. It's almost done, I just need to wait for that flyback transformer. I'll post pictures when I'm done!

If you don't mind me asking, how much did that set you back and what was the auction like? I live fairly close to Nashville and would like to go to one of the Moneymaker auctions...
All right youngens, bath time. Cover up your eyes and drop your britches! Who wants wax?

I won the auction for $420.00. After 10% buyer's premium and 9.75 TN sales tax, the total was $505.00. The thing also had a fsked up monitor which needs repairing. It's a big, sturdy six button cabinet with a 25" monitor, can't do much better than $500.00 there. Especially with all these freakish ultra-MAME-arcade in a box kits going for $2,000.00+.

What was the auction like? Well, there was one warehouse type building of the fairgrounds being used, not a *huge* variety in arcade cabinets but they had some pretty good stuff, a few classics in crappy condition and a few middle of the road generic ones (a Neo Geo, Aero Fighters, Turkey Shootings, etc) And they had lots of other things, touch-screen monitor units, slot machines, gumball machines, snack machines, pool tables, juke boxes, stuff like that.

WOW. $500 for a broken machine? That you then MAMEd? I must be missing something ... the last cab I MAMEd was $5, also with a dead monitor (I didn't care, I put a PC monitor into it).

I don't know where you're getting these five dollar cabinets, there sure as hell weren't any at this auction. This was about the only opportunity to get a cabinet I have right now, with dwindling space in a one room apartment and the the "I want one now goddammit!" factor, I am forced to be picky. Maybe I can sell the board to make back some of the money, anyone know what a Street Fighter EX 2 goes for now?
