Wasn't it only was released on the N64 in Japan?
On the Dreamcast Bangai-O was released in all territories: Japan, North America, and PAL.

I scored it for $54 brand new sealed. I have heard that this game is pretty rare, but since I can't find any other prices on an auction, all I have to go by are references to the game from random Dreamcast musings on the net.
In my eyes I got it for a really good deal, but I am trying to pinpoint just how good of a deal.

No doupt a really great price! If I not remeber wrong I payed 80 pounds for my (with faded spine card...). Bought it from VGI that are known for rather high prices, but since it is almost impossible to find a sealed one (pretty hard to find a complete at all) I was happy to pay that. Have seen one on Yahoo Japan with start bid 25 000 yen, but thatīs not much to count value from since it has been there a year I think:-).

I seem to recall buying a North American copy of this game for $20-$30 on eBay a year or two ago... is the Japanese version actually harder to find? I certainly wouldn't have thought so, considering the game's content...

The japanese version is much harder to find (but both US- and PAL-version is rather easy to find for great prices). Maybe not up in the same price as "the Ebay rocket" Border Down, but BD are always availble on Ebay; Japanese Bangai-O very seldom.
Well the order shipped, so that means I will hopefully be getting a Bangai-O JPN sealed brand new. I had a hard time believing that they had it in stock. So far so good. I will let you all know when it arrives and snap a pic.

Great, congratulation! So now (maybe:-) you can reveal the were you bought it? I really want to buy one myself (without sun-faded spide card...my must have stand in a window for a long time...fun for the fantasy, but not in the collection;-).
I scored it off of estarland.com. They give very fare prices for all of their games and know the collectors value of most titles. So that is why I was so puzzled to see them selling it for only $54.95. It is currently listed as "Temporarily Out of Stock", so it looks like I got the only one they had.

What kind of game is it
Bangai-O is a free-roaming hori shooter by Treasure. You traverse cavernous levels destroying robot enemies and buildings for combos and hi-scores. It is a great game.
