Question Box Condition for Collection Purposes

ok i was wondering, sifting through my boxes some of them are kinda battered.

i know the condition of the box brings up or down the value but whats considered good? not great or mint or bad just good?

most of my boxes have small dents and dings and small or minor scratches. some of the corners are worn.

only 2 boxes are near mint (NES/Wii)
and 2 are in horrible shape (N64/VB)

if they are onbly dented and dinged or some minor scratches are they still considered good? how bad does a box have to be before its not considered any added value to the item?

this is kind a "to the general population" type of question"

Minor dings won't do that much to the value, it's any crushing, folding, marking, tearing or liquid damage that will pretty much render the box useless for value purposes.

Sometimes you can't help this. Even boxes straight from a store shelf might be banged up or have punctures. Take a baseball card collector. They run the risk of finding a great card in a pack, only to discover it was cut uneven at the factory or has a gum stain on it because it was at one end of the pack next to the bubble gum (gum stains were really only a problem for sports cards from the 80's and 90's, since I don't think they come with gum anymore). Those things drive down the value of a card before it is even opened by a collector.

Yeah a perfect box is rarely expected so minor bends will not really affect the price.
Looking to buy any Criterion movies that I don't already have.

I'm decently picky about the boxes. For systems like Genesis, Master System and Playstation 2 the plastic cover and inserts need to be in great condition for me to consider an increase in price. For paper boxed games on systems like Nintendo, Virtual Boy and Neo Geo Pocket they need to be in some condition to consider a price increase. Of course if they look like crap and has been ripped up I don't consider much to its value, but closer to mint the more I'm willing to pay considering on rarity and demand for the game.

I try to be as picky as possible about games I really like. I'll pay more for a good condition box. Other stuff, well, I don't care so much as long as I didn't overpay.
