    Question PS2 Component Cables

I just got a new HDTV last week, and it has component inputs, along with HDMI and composite.

Question: Will I notice any difference in graphic quality when connecting a PS2 to the tv via component cables?

    Thanks!

    Yes.

The image will appear sharper and colors will be more accurate. Also you'll be able to activate progressive scan (480p) on games that support it. PS2 component cables are cheap and plentiful on ebay and elsewhere, so theres really no reason not to get them.

Yes, you'll notice a big difference, especially if upgrading from composite cables. Most games (and all dvds) will output in 480i but some lucky games like Outrun2006 run in glorious 480P which is very nice step up from 480i but nowhere near the step from composite to component. Haven't been able to compare RGB scart to component however that wont output at 480P for the few games which support it

Just a quick heads up about finding the component cables… I recently snagged a set of the Sony brand cables on clearance for half price ($15) at Toys R Us. The local one here had about two pegs completely filled up with them. Component is well worth getting!

[EDIT - I change my mind. Since virtually none of the PS2 games can display a resolution higher than 480 scanlines, there's no reason to upgrade any higher than S-video. S-video can easily handle the 480 resolution.]

Yes. Composite and/or S-video cables can only go to 480i max. You need component cables to see 720p & of course the higher resolution == more pixels == more details visible.

I got it from Best Buy for $580 shipped including taxes. I can't seem to find it on their site anymore.

While it IS Sharper, The colors are way off! Just try to play Bully... I played it in component and I HAD to set the tint so the flesh tones would look natural, (People looked pale and green, Wich makes me feel sick) But once I did, The grass (And anything green) Looked like mud!

I heard that the HDTV XPLoader accessory makes them play better (It comes with component cables too) But I haven't tried that accessory, And I don't know if PS2 games look any better on PS3.
