    Default Wii modchip ready

    http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=43162&st=0

I guess this is as fake as the Team Ice Xbox 360 modchip (or what it was called) tho. Still, it doesnt suprise me TOO much if its real considering Wii is pretty close to GC, hardware wise, and you already have modchip(s) for GC

Even if it's fake I still think it's not a matter of if, but when, as far as a modchip is concerned. It would be nice if the Wii modchip was as easy to install as a GC modchip. :P

You didn't even need a chip for the US or Japanese Cube to switch it over... which was mighty handy (all thanks to eagle eyes people at one computer show). If only the Wii was so easy heh.

I'm totally out of the loop and thread jacking but I need to know, does this mean you don't need a modchip for the cube?

I seriously doubt that its real but if it is I wonder how long it will take nintendo to put out an update to kill it.

I can guarantee that Nintendo will be extremely aggressive in updating the system to lock-out or even brick your Wii if you mod it. Considering this is their first-ever foray into a traditional media format (carts, then mini dvd, now dvd) they won't put up with piracy. In fact, they have an entire division at their corp office that deals exclusively with intellectual property theft. I dealt with them personally when there were mall kiosks selling ripped-off NES titles in a plug-n-play.

Believe me when I say---They act and they act FAST.

If you have a US or Japanese Cube, to "mod" it to allow you to play games from the other region (not PAL though), all it took was a couple of bits of wire, solder on a specific bit of the circuit board and a two way switch. That's all it took to switch between BIOS versions within the hardware. I believe some people spotted a dev company with a similar setup at one computer show prelaunch and took notes. The fact the board had the words US and JPN in large letters next to the switch kinda gave the game away

And lo and behold, companies such as LikSang were offering modded Cubes pretty much right out of the door when the machine launched. You just need a different memory card for the other region as the Cube actually formats the card to the language needed (either English or Japanese) for the saves. This is also how you can only play games such as Donkey Konga and Mr Driller DrillLand Japanese versions and be able to save properly.

If someone does get a mod chip out there, I'll just use the Wii I have currently for online and get a modded one to play any region stuff offline.

Seems like it is for real. But it's not a "modchip" really it's more of a firmware fix like the Xbox 360 has.

I came across another Wii modchip. Maxconsole.net will test it soon (unless they are fooling us all lol ).

    http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=13934

    - Quicksolder (no wires required)
    - Plays Wii Backups
    - Plays GC Backups
    - Play GC Homebrew
    - Play GC Imports (swap needed)
    - Built-in Audiofix (GC games using streaming are working flawlessly, no patch needed)
    - DVD-R / DVD+R support
    - Optional chip disable wire
    - Stealth even when chip is enabled
    - Multi-purpose LED

It's the exact same as the Winja but with a switch and the ability to solder the whole PCB to the board without running wires.

Probably will cost more and it has no advantage over the Winja.

Might be, but atleast Maxconsole got this in their hands. I'm waiting for their test results.

Wii has only been out for like 2 months and a modchip is already out. First console that gets a modchip fastest? I had a feeling that Wii would be hacked very quick due to the simularity hardware as Gamecube so its not really a big suprise, atleast not for me.

Its really cool that it works, but it sux that you cant play imports or homebrew. I dont care so much for homebrew, but playing imports is one of the big factors that make modchips great

Another modchip out (damn, they are flowing out on the market now hehe )

    http://wiikey.cn/

This one is really cool tho, you can upgrade the modchip!
It means that if Nintendo makes some update to block the chip you can update the modchip to get past the update Nintendo puts out so it will still work, crazy stuff hehe.

It also says "Boots different NTSC region Wii games/backups" does this mean you can play other regions?

1up just posted this on the soon to be released chip:

The GameCube was notoriously easy to hack with a mod chip. Though the system didn't exactly open itself up to homebrew development like Xbox did, region free gaming wasn't difficult. And that may be the case with Wii, too, if the folks at WiiKey are to be believed. WiiKey says they'll have a shippable mod chip that contains only four wires and starts shipping on February 7th.
    They promise:

Fully upgradable via DVD/disc (future proof, expect cool features to come)
Direct boot of Wii backups (like originals)
Direct boot of GC backups (like originals)
    Boots different region GC games/backups
Boots different NTSC region Wii games/backups
    Supports multi-disc games
    Supports DVD-R and DVD+R
Built-in audio fix (for games using streaming, no patch required)
    Stealth mode
4 wires & quick solder interface
Compact design, best quality components, rock solid high speed controller
    Professional ESD packing
