Default SNES Controller Start button issues

I'm just curious is it an issue or I just take very poor care of my stuff.

I have a couple of SNESes (like 6) and recently I had some friends over for some Street Fighter Action. and I found I had to press really hard for the start button to respond...and this isn't in just one or 2 controllers...but at least 5. I'm curious if any of you guys have experienced snes controllers with really poor start buttons.

any info would be greatly appreciated.

    1) clean the contacts under the start pad
    2) check for cracked PCB's. This is common with the SNES. The harder you press, the more it flexes. I've seen many cracked ones.
