Default Atari Jaguar/Genesis power supply question

    Simple question, I hope.

All right. I am aware that a Sega Genesis 1 AC adapter (1602) will work with an Atari Jaguar. However, unless I am mistaken, there seems to be more than one of the 1602 adapters. One of them is 9V and the other appears to be 10V.

It has been confirmed before that the 9V cord is suitable for use on a Jaguar. However, what is the story with the Genesis 1602 adapter which lists 10V and is that safe to use with an Atari Jaguar? For that matter, which adapter came first?

Perhaps this is a very easy question to answer but it isn't my system and thus, I am erring on the side of caution. Everywhere I looked pointed out the 1602 Genesis plug with 9V.

    Thanks in advance.

Provided that the polarity is identical, they're totally interchangable.

The SNES voltage and polarity is the same polarity and voltage as the sega"1602-1" which happens to be "ONE' of the many genny 1 adapters. But is also been told to fry Jaguars. The "1602" is a different adapter bye a volt and amps and the polarity is reversed. Why then would they both work on a Genny 1 and sega cd but not on the Jaguar?

P.S.-this is my Jaguar bangtango is asking about and I finally have all the peices so I really need to be sure.

    Thanx BT

I don't think the polarity is reversed.
NES PSUs are the ones that fry Jaguars, since they output AC that the Jag can't rectify.

YIKES! You still haven't got your Jag up and running! :P This is a rather technical question though... I'm not too sure on the correct answer for this one.

I've never seen a 10V Genesis 1 power supply. You sure it's not a Genesis 2 power supply? Those are 10V (or 10.5 I think) and may have a reversed polarity, but the plug is different and won't fit into either a Genesis 1 or a Jaguar.

Anyway, when looking for a replacement AC adapter, a volt above or below what's needed or amperage slightly lower or any amount higher than needed will be fine. It's really only the tip polarity and, of course, the plug shape that matter. In fact, AC adapters that will work with the Genesis or Jaguar are super common in thrift stores. You could go into just about any thrift store and walk out with five of the things at 99 cents each. 9VDC 800+mA and tip negative with that common large barrel plug.
