I wasn't aware this was so rare, but I am just starting to collect NES.

The game isn't the rarest game out there. I mean, it is harder to find than most NES titles, but still not so rare that you won't see several of them on ebay or "in the wild" in any given year. The controller is harder to find than the game, since the controllers are prone to breaking. A SEALED Arkanoid is truly a rarity by comparison, but since I don't collect sealed games, I couldn't tell you how much that one will go for, or even how rare it really is.
As a general rule though, Taito games tend to be difficult to locate compared to your average NES title.

Especially later titles like Panic Resturant, Flintstones 2, and Little Samson. Weird.
Probably over 1-2 years ago, you could get a sealed Arkanoid for about $30-$40... someone had an assload of them. I suppose they're gone now, but they were always up. The sealed auction guy is dead wrong about his being on of the last ones in existence, that's for sure.
Those two auctions' BIN prices are rips. The starting price for the loose one is the absolute max you'd pay for a minty one, which this one isn't. They are not THAT hard to find. The controller is rarer, and you don't always see them paired together.

A few weeks ago I had the unmintiest controller and cartridge, sold them how they were. Describing all cuts, corrosion, etc. but it still sold for $30.
I've run into 3 Vaus controllers at Funcolands in the past few months, they are great money makers, even to sell by themselves. I'd check there first before heading straight to eBay. All three of mine worked too. *knocks on wood
I got a controller at a thrift for $1... went home and popped in the cart and plugged in the controller... nothing! It's as bad as the 5200 controller! Why? Doesn't seem that hard to make a sturdy one to me. Must be really cheap.
DENIED!!! >
Yeah I was one of those people who bought it off ebay when that guy was selling them new for $30. I think I got a steal.

to everybody who PMed about the Vaus controller, i'll get back to you after i dig it out and test it.

Did you plug it in the second controller port? It doesn't work on port one.Originally Posted by Atari7800

(sigh) I bought this game when it was NEW, because I was such a fan of Arkanoid. You'd think a thirteen year old wouldn't get that excited about a polished up rehash of Breakout, but I certainly was. I picked up a copy of the game for Christmas, played it to death, then traded it and another game for a copy of Metroid. Now don't get me wrong... I loved Metroid too, and considering all the hours I spent with it, I'm sure I got my money's worth. However, there so many copies of that game floating around, and so few copies of Arkanoid with the Vaus paddle. I'm still kicking myself for giving the game up rather than holding onto it and waiting until I could afford my own copy of Metroid.

P.S. By the way, I guess Arkanoid R(eturns) for the Playstation was compatible with a "Volume Controller" that was essentially a paddle designed specifically for the PSX.
