    Default Simpsons Arcade game port?

Was the Simpsons beat 'em up arcade game ported to any console systems? I really enjoyed playing it as a kid at the Skaterena in my home town. Just lookin for a trip down memory lane.

Actually, it was on the C64 too. But cut-down as the PC port was, the C64 version is probably not a better bet.

The story goes that Acclaim had exclusive rights to console games based on The Simpsons at the time, and I guess Konami couldn't work out a deal with them. Not that the game would have worked all that well on the NES anyway.

    Why not? We had TMNTII...

    Oh, wait.

I'm shocked that this game has never been ported over to one of the modern consoles. It would be cheap to do and sell like hotcakes.

Frankly, because there is no home option and the PC version hasn't been sold in over a decade, I reccomend MAME.

I feel that emulation should be an option if legal means are elusive.

It wouldn't sell, it's a way overrated cookie cutter Konami BMU. Not worth its own disc in this day and age, but you might find it hidden on some other Simpsons game / collection someday.
Selling collection, Atari through XBox. Send a PM with whatever games you're looking for.

Dave, you're my bro, but I'm going to have to say you're out of your goddamn mind.

Considering the number of times I have seen this question asked, and the fact almost every arcade in the early 90's had this game (I even remember playing this game at Pizza Hut) I think it'd sell damn well.

But as it stands, the only real option outside of MAME is to get the arcade game itself. Which I know my dumb ass is going to do someday, along with the boards for TMNT and X-Men because 95% of my childhood arcade memories stem from those 3 games.

MAME would most likely be the ideal option, but I am not set up for emulation other than basic emulators at the moment. I was just hoping it made it's way onto a cartridge/disc at some point in time.

Were there any other Simpsons games that were similar that may have made it? I've played one on the Genesis maybe, but it was not even close.

Hey, it's not like it's the first time I've ever heard that. Or even the thousandth.

Yeah, I know what you mean, but I think we're too close to it. It's one of those games that has a *huge* cult following (and you've got the videogame crowd / Simpsons crowd crossover thing going for it too), but outside of that, most people think it's pretty "meh." I'm not saying it's a terrible game, just that it's overrated (see also: TMNT, Crime Fighters, X-Men, etc., etc.)

I was wondering if anyone else felt this way. A bit of truth.

This game along with X-Men and TMNT was one of my main inspirations for getting a modded Xbox for MAME. I, for one, really loved those Konami BMUs.

It's possible that the rights to the game are buried so deeply in a colossal heap somewhere that no one will ever dig them out, especially now that Acclaim is a non-entity.

Crime Fighters was rushed, and Simpsons is very button mashing oriented.

I have to disagree about TMNT being overrated. That game had a perfect blend of gameplay, music, and required a degree of skill when trying to finish the game on one quarter. It is by far Konami's best BMU.

That game overrated or not cost me a good amount of my childhood allowance. I remember playing that game everytime I went to the bowling alley until they got rid of it. I would always use bart and just out of curiosity did anybody actually use Marge or Lisa?
Looking to buy any Criterion movies that I don't already have.

The good thing about those Simpsons machines is, they aren't hard to find. There was one at the flea market in Tulsa I went to last weekend, and there's another one EITHER at Cactus Jack's OR at Celebration Station (I went to both recently and I can't remember which one I saw it at.)

And as for 4 player X-Men, there's one of those in my garage.

I always used Marge because I felt that her vacuum cleaner gave her extra reach, although I have no idea if that is true or not.

That would be the whole point to the JAMMA standard, yes.

And if you had what is known as a "supergun", you would be able to use the board with a television set without any problems.
