Oh yes, the guys over at Junker HQ have completed an English translation for the Playstation version of Hideo Kojima's Policenauts.

The IPS patch will be released later on this year. More information available on the Policenauts English translation site.

After a quick bit of Google-Fu it would seem that the Saturn version is better than the PSone version. It has light gun support for shooting sections, added cutscenes and quite a few bonus extras. Maybe someone with Saturn coding/hacking experience will be able to use the translated script to do a patch for the Saturn version in the future, hopefully.

But for now it's nice to actually be able to finally play the game in English.

Is the translator/coordinator Marc Laidlaw the same Marc Laidlaw who created/designed Half-Life?

If so, that's immensly interesting.

Wow I have been waiting for this for years! I do hope someone creates a Sega Saturn patch with the translation as I too would like to use the gun with the game!

Yes yes yes. I've been wanting to get the game for awhile but is costly, and for a non-japanese translator it really sucks for me! I really want to learn the language one day, not become an expert but have a general understanding to watch non-dubbed or subbed anime and video games.

I'm just as stoked as everyone, but what will it take in order to play the game? Will I need the Japanese version and a modded PS1? I'm stoked, but I'm still very confused as to what I will have to do in order to play this game.

Or you get a copy of the disc image and use a PSX emulator.

Hopefully this will pave the way for more translations of CD based games. I'm sure that English versions of Shadowrun on Mega CD and Samurai Spirits RPG on NeoGeo CD would be greatly appreciated. And what about some self-booting DC love; I'd love to be able to play through Eldorado Gate.

Has anyone had any luck with making an ISO of the Policenauts discs? I've tried MagicISO, cd2ISO, ISORecorder, and Infra Recorder, but I can't seem to build a valid ISO image.

In contrast, I can rip a CCD/IMG and a BIN/CUE of it just fine, but trying to convert those to ISO yields an invalid image that's non functional in any emulator or a real PS1 and crashes PS1 Renamer. Not really sure how to get this to convert ok and I was really hoping to get some images primed and ready well before the patch hit the net so that I'd be ready to rock the minute it rolls out.

I'm curious because I emailed the team and asked about the technical specs on the patch; ie. if it'll be compatible with rereleases of the game and what format the images should be ripped to, whereby I was informed that ISO (not BIN/CUE) would be the format of choice.

Also, PS1 Renamer doesn't recognize the Playstation The Best release of the game properly and labels it as the 3 disc release Time to file a bug report

There's no translations for those systems because there's not enough experienced hackers to handle the -really- difficult games.

I am aware of a very capable Playstation hacker who's working on Persona 2: Innocent Sin (as well as a few projects), but that's it.

Try using Alcohol 120%.

It can be surprisingly tricky... Try converting the BIN/CUE using ISOBuster. Remember, an ISO image is made from the filesystem on the disc, and not the disc itself!

I know of a guy trying to translate Segagaga for DC but he has a problem with double-width fonts or some such technical hitch. Very sad. 8/

There's also a translation of Soul Hackers being worked on I beleive...Persona 2 innocent sin has a translation, just not one that's hacked into the game. There's some webpage with the whole text dump or whatnot somewhere. Sega CD shadowrun would be nice...
