GB: Mario's Picross

You know, I've been looking at this game sitting on the shelf at a store up the road for about 2 weeks now. It's $5 but from what I've seen lately GB games are declining in price. However, I did a search and apparently quite a few people on here like this game and one believe it's the best GB game. I'm currious as to the gameplay and how well it's designed because in the DP guide it said this game flopped horribly and therefore the sequals weren't released over here in America.

So, should I pick it up, is it worth the $5 because I've been trying to not buy anymore GB games for a good while but this might be worth it.

Mario's Picross is an awesome game, and if you've found it for five bucks then by all means, drop a fiver on the table and take it home.

It's a puzzle game, watching the numbers on the top and the side of the grid and filling in the spots where the numbers intersect to create a picture. It's really simple, but it gets complex and sometimes nearly impossibly difficult.

I've been looking for this game locally for like 2 months and haven't found a copy yet. At $5 I would snag it in a heartbeat! It's really really good!

Indeed, you should buy it. Even though I already have a copy, if I came across one that cheaply, I'd buy it just to put in the tradebox, in hopes of introducing someone to how awesome this game is.

I bought this game in 2002 for $14.99. Was worth every cent. One of the best and most original puzzle games I've ever played that sadly always seems to get overlooked.

I guess it is that spectacular. I'm a puzzle fiend and a bit low on cash at the moment but I'll check it out after work, if it's there it'll be in my hands.

There was a lacking of screenshots online so I couldn't determine its playability from just that but the reviews were golden. Anyone play this on their Super Game Boy? Does it enhance the game with the little extra color? Also on the screens the GB offers is it ledgible? Just currious before I pick it up and for future reference to people who might browse this topic later on.

I'd kill to get it for $5! Been casually looking for it for years without much luck. At $5 it's a total steal, especially for fans of the genre. Due to the type of game it doesn't really benefit from Super Gameboy play. It'll play just fine on a standard gameboy. If you aren't familiar with Picross, search nonograms on google and you should be able to find some online versions to play. It's really quite fun when you get the hang of it.

If you want to see an example of the gameplay, I posted some videos of various nonogram games on youtube. Click the link in my sig and look for NuPa, Logic Puzzle Rainbow Town or OChan no Oekaki Logic.

Also, if you end up getting hooked, and you have a DS, do yourself a favor and grab the JP only Picross DS. It's an awesome little game and even features wiFi multiplayer! You can make your own puzzles and also download user creations or classic puzzles from the past Picross titles. Playing it with a stylus also adds to the fun.

That reminds me, Demiforce released a homebrew clone (with some nifty extra features) for the GBC called Drymouth.

Not there. There was a bunch of junk that was thrown into the case (must have been earlier today) and it wasn't heaped up in it or anything. Nothing else interesting there at this time but oh well. Maybe whoever bought it will end up selling it off at another store or something.

Missed opportunity there! If you decide you really want it, I'm sure you can find it elsewhere. I don't think I paid much more than $5 for mine (actually I probably got it in a trade). It's pretty much the only thing I use my Gamecube for. Kind of funny to have a $50 system with a $50 accessory (the Gameboy Player) just for playing an old B&W Gameboy game, but there you have it.

Haha, that's why I picked up Bomberman World for the PSX the other day. I was tired of seeing it for the past month sitting on a shelf. It's alright but I feel I might end up trading it it later down the road towards getting Metal Slug X.

Well, I just got a boxed/instr. Picross on ebay for $10.00, and there are plenty unboxed on german ebay for $2.00, not that rare really.

So yeah, I picked this up as a "freebie" through Club Nintendo for 200 club coins. Thus far I'm liking it. I'm not much of a Picross fan. I only played Nintendo's DS one up until I finished all of the 5x5's and a few 10x10's, and I have a generic Android one (called Cross Me or Cross E) which I found to be just "meh." But so far I've found Mario's Picross to be better than both.

The beginning ones in MP were just lame ("You made an L! You made an E! You made a T!") so after three of them I jumped right to the larger 15x15 ones featuring Nintendo characters and items. These are much better.

I can't say I see myself playing MP a lot in the future, but as an already-loaded, downloadable game good for killing time when my surroundings are too noisy to play a more demanding action- or story-based game, I think I will be playing this for a while yet. After all, when you have a TV blaring or people talking or are waiting for only a few minutes, a game like this is just right.
