Default Ok NO more X men Arcade Conversion NEW IDEA! ?

Ok well after talking to a few people on here i think the route im gonna try and take is the simplest one there is. Im planning to buy a 4 player control panel someone built for MAME. then i plan to get a PC and upload MAME to it etc. Get a good frontend and do it like normal. Now instead of converting my whole dedicated x men, (which i came to find out was a bad idea) I might just build a custom arcade cabinet where i can just set a flat screen 25inch TV in it. and buy these cables>

    http://www.amazon.com/PC-TO-VIDEO-CA...7?ie=UTF8&s=hi

Now i know this might not be the truest arcade expercience etc. but it looks easy and having a sweet control panel would give it the feel. And i was bascially wondering what the resolution, clarity, and picture would be to buy one of these pc to TV cables and do it this way? if all goes well ill buy some surround speakers etc, and kinda just make a place to rock old school arcade games with joysticks. Any ideas from anyone or has anyone done something like this and used these cables?

are you serious? if it's a dedicated cab you should Ebay it. i'll even give you a cab that's set up for MAME already. also where abouts are you located?

    1) Leave it as-is and buy other horizontal JAMMA boards you want to play (Simpsons, TMNT, Crime Fighters, etc.) to swap out, or

    2) just sell it as-is, pocket the cash and look for a different cab to customize.

IMO, the four-player X-MEN cab is unique enough (and huge enough) that it's not worth turning into a MAME cab, especially when other generic cabs are a dime a dozen these days.

yea that sounds good, but i cant seem to find a 4 player empty cabinet anywhere. :-(. i wanna make a MAME, where i can have like EVERY arcade game in it. (except for the brand new stuff) but like other classics as well. but i also wanna have a 4 player option on the MAME that way 4 people can play. And this 4 player x men is the only thing i already havr to do so. :-( is there anyway to convert it to mame but still be able to put it back together originall in case i ever wanna sell it?

It doesn't necessarily need to be empty. There are *tons* of 4-player NBA Jam, TE, etc., style cabs out there and many generics that are built the same way. IMO a dedicated X-Men cab is more desirable and tougher to track down than a run of the mill 4-player Midway cab, but YMMV.

Are you planning to alter the cabinet in any way (i.e contol panel or monitor)? I know most people like myself don't like to see a dedicated cabinet get butchered into a MAME cab when there are many generic cabs out there that will work.

How much open space does your cab have? Could it fit a computer without interfering with any of the current wiring or boards? Even if you didnt have room you could disconnect and remove the JAMMA board(s) (carefully!) to fit a computer. You can always reassemble it to it's original state if you wanted to sell it as an X-Men cab.

For the wiring i would suggest a keyboard encoder (Ipac, Jpac, or other) and you could use the same monitor with an ArcadeVGA card.

If you do plan to make a Frankenpanel please use another cab. Just my 2 cents.

hey dude, i think ive decided to keep the x men all original, and try to do MAME with a modded xbox. i think im gonna just build a cab to set a TV in it, and an xbox in the bottom. But im looking foir info right now on control panels etc. to use with a modded xbox. Id want to make it 4 player and im kinda stumped at what procedures to take. if anyone knows any info on this please shoot me a PM if possible. thanks!

If you're looking to make it yourself, go to www.arcadecontrols.com (if you havent already). There is a ton of information there.

Yea, I've posted about this before here. It depends on what you're wanting to do, how accurate you want it to look, how much money you want to spend and how picky your eyes are. Personally I think a video-out cart to a television set looks great. A PC monitor is about the worst choice (least accurate). An arcade monitor with the proper video card is the most accurate but most hassle and most expensive as well. I think a TV is a great solution.
