Question Would You Buy A Book on the History of the Sega Genesis?

I've been slowly compiling into book form all the articles (around 140) that I've written for my website over the last two years. I've already invested hundreds of hours of research and have interviewed 40 different personalities, so I figured it might make for some good reading. So far, I have over 100 pages of just copy/pasting the articles in order (I already did an outline of how each chapter would be laid out). I still have stuff to write, articles to expand and made to flow into each other better, as well as transcribe all of the interviews into narrative form and insert them where they go. The book should be around 180-200 pages when I'm done (might be more, I think).

Video game books have slowly been gaining in popularity over the last few years, and I'm thinking this is a good time for this sort of thing. Would anyone here be interested in reading something like this? I've looked to Sheff's book on Nintendo and Kent's history of video games for inspiration. They're both kind of dry but highly informative reads.

I'd love a book on the history of the genesis from a gamer/collector's point of view. The NES was my first real system, but it was the genny that turned me into a gamer.

Yes, as long as it has 32X, Sega CD and Game Gear info in there as well.

Haven't seen your site in a while. Seeing it again reminds me how awesome it is.

As for the book, it depends on the price. I'm not a huge Genesis guy, but you've obviously done your homework with great care and passion, so it might be deserving of a look even from a non-fan. It's like PSX fans in the UK who bought Sega Saturn Magazine... even though they didn't own the system, the quality of SSM was so good people picked it up anyway.

You have a copy of that future book of yours pre-sold MELF. I'm coo coo for anything Mega Drive man, though as I said last year over @ Sega-Spetsnaz.Com before it went kaput, I will always refer to even the American Genesis as "Mega Drive". To me it always had more of a punch to it, but that's just me. Maybe you could entitle it History of MD/Genesis? or the other way around? It worked nicely for the insert on Beggar Prince which I'm still not even halfway though. At any rate, let us all know when the book is released, I'm buying at least one copy. Will the pics be in color or in black & white?

I'm not a huge fan of Genesis, but I always enjoy reading game related material. Sounds good.

Is this going to be nothing but text or will there be (pretty pretty) pictures?

Either way I'd be all for it, but I'm wondering if it will have old photos and whatnot.

Possibility is infinity! You must be satisfied!

If it's an actual book/magizine then yes. I'd be more intrested in one for the Saturn and one for the Duo.

Sure, I'll be glad to buy one when it is completed. What sort of timeframe are we looking at?

I would buy it for multiple reasons:

    1. Always looking for a good read
    2. Always looking to learn more about game related stuff
    3. I want to brush up on some Genesis stuff
    4. Its always good to help out a fellow DP'er
Looking to buy any Criterion movies that I don't already have.

Count me in! Something along the lines of High Score! The Illustrated History of Electronic Games, but dedicated to the Genesis/Mega Drive would be awesome.

I've never seen that book mentioned here at DP. Here's an Amazon link for those who don't know about this book: Click Me!

I'd buy it assuming you don't do something stupid like not ship to Canada.

Provided that it's properly researched and has some kind of content that I can't already find online, I'd buy it like a shot.

Not the biggest Genesis fan, but if the price is right I'd buy it.

If it had an international slant and included the Sega/Mega CD and the 32X, I'd deffo buy it, Mega Drive has long since been my favourite console. :-)

I would like to see info on the 32X and SegaCD too but count me in either way. I love my Sega Genesis.
    Take care,
