    - seriously.

The funny part is that these are mostly a sticker on the outside of the snapcase (but under the shrinkwrap), or are printed on the insert.

Inside, there's just a piece of paper with the code on it, and that's all.

It's not really a special edition or anything, just an exclusive sales feature.

    It's definitely getting old.

The problem for me is to determine exactly how much I want to pay attention to some of these details.

For example - let's look at three different releases:

    Stuntman: Ignition

There's a release with nothing on the insert.
There's a release with a "FREE Movie Ticket Inside" printed on the insert.
There's a release with no "FREE Movie Ticket Inside" on the insert, but with the Target Exclusive information sticker.
There's a release with no "FREE Movie Ticket Inside" on the insert, but with the Best Buy Exclusive information sticker.
There's a release with no "FREE Movie Ticket Inside" on the insert, but with the Circuit City Exclusive information sticker.

So, that's technically 5 releases of Stuntman: Ignition. However, I haven't mentioned any other re-releases.

Which brings me to example #2:

    Eragon

There's a standard release with nothing on the insert.
There's a release with a "FREE Movie Ticket Inside" printed on the insert.

Should I care? If I want to be complete, then of course I do. But ultimately, it's only a re-release (The version with the FREE ticket was the first one.) There are other re-releases that have this exact same issue.

Which brings me to example #3:

    Gears of War

There's the standard original release with nothing on the insert.
There's the Limited Edition Collector's release.
There's a new re-release with the gold starburst on the insert (Game of the Year info).

Again - I'm not sure if I need to have a new category for re-releases, or just ignore them.

I'm open to thoughts on the subject...

    Thanks,
    Steve

Actually found the Toys R Us exclusive Call of Duty 2 with DVD today.

If I could figure out how to post a picture, I'd show you how it's different from the regular release.

Call of Duty 2 and 3 have the most variants releases of ANY XBOX 360 games out there.

    Call of Duty 2

Original release (no offer on front of insert)
Game of the Year Edition release (no designation on spine; just says Call of Duty 2)
Game of the Year Edition release (no designation on spine; just says Call of Duty 2) - TRU exclusive comes packaged with Bonus DVD packaged in cardboard slipcover, shrinkwrapped to the back of the snapcase, and paper insert on front of snapcase
Game of the Year Edition release (designation added on spine; says Game of the Year Edition) - red circle on front of insert that says FREE BONUS DVD
Game of the Year Edition release (designation added on spine; says Game of the Year Edition) - red circle on front of insert that says FREE Multiplayer MAPS and BONUS DVD
Special Edition Platinum Hits release (Platiinum Hits design; says Special Edition on front) - red circle on front of insert that says INCLUDES BONUS DVD!

    Call of Duty 3

Original release (no offer on front of insert)
Original release - (Wal-Mart exclusive with Bonus Soundtrack) - gold circle on front of insert that says BONUS Call of Duty 3 Soundtrack Inside (includes Sountrack CD in white paper slipcover)
Original release - The Ultimate World War II Experience (Best Buy exclusive) - packaged in oversized cardboard slip-cover with Bonus DVD in snapcase
Call of Duty 3: GOLD Edition (no offer on front of insert)
Call of Duty 3: GOLD Edition - red circle on front of insert that says FREE Multiplayer MAPS and BONUS DVD $10 Value

I believe that's all of them!

(EDIT: more to come on this - I have to save so I don't lose the text; computer battery going)
My Call of Duty 2 2005 GOTYE release has a designation on the spine and a "Free Bonus DVD See Reverse For Details" red circle stamp on the insert, and the bonus DVD comes in a white paper CD sleeve/envelope with the title "Collector's Bonus DVD" on it.

How did you find the TRU version - eBay, used at a B&M store, or NOS still at TRU?

I still have more to add to the Call of Duty 2 list (unfortunately.)

I got my copy NOS at TRU yesterday, and they had one more left.

The list has been edited above to complete the Call of Duty 2 and 3 variants list.

I'm thinking of just doing a list, alphabetically, which has each of the known variants for each title, rather than breaking them down as I have been.

What does everyone think? Would that be more helpful, or is this more helpful?

I think that it would be easier to read that way. Could we also add the actual differences to the games in the list. Like PD0 platinum hits adds new maps, right?

I saw the 2 worlds one today used and it sure looked sweet. Don't know much about the game but the colectors package was nice.

I think that I've decided to list all the versions of each title alphabetically, and bold the main title.

That way, if you're just interested about the game, regardless of the other packaging info, you can see them clearly. Or, if you're like me, you can see all of the collecting options.

By the way, I encountered a different John Woo Presents: Stranglehold today.

It was at Wal-Mart, and it was for the regular release, not the Collector's Edition.

There was a small offer logo on the bottom of the front insert that read something like, "Bonus - collectible art book inside".

I wrote it down and will update the list with the actual wording later today.

LOTS of variants for you retentives out there! (I'm one myself.)

However, I can definitely say that I won't abbreviate - it's too confusing to the casual reader.

I've been asked recently to take care of the 360 Online guide here at DP, so I'm going to make it easy on myself and fashion the list in a way that I won't have to duplicate my efforts.

    More to come for sure...

Alright, that's cool. I just find it hard to find info about the actual content differences. Like on SNES games, I always wondered what the difference between MM:X 1.0 and 1.1. I think it would be cool to have an indepth list that has these things. But anyway.....

I have an off topic question. I bought Prey LCE from gamestop used and the game disc came in a sleeve. Did this come in a sleeve or is there a 'part' I am missing?

Oh and thanks for the awesome list!

I used to have this game. There is a hard foam nub attached the actual tin on the bottom of the cases to put the disc on. It's beneath the inserts. It's a really lame mount for such a great LE set. Your better off with the paper sleeve.

Thanks briskbc. I just ripped apart my copy, and am just amazed. I wonder how many people took the game back claiming there was no disc! But yeah thanks agian.

Many releases today, some new, some old.

I'll be updating the list soon.

    New Titles:

Elder Scrolls IV, The: Oblivion (Game of the Year Edition)
    Fatal Inertia
    Kengo: Legend of the 9
    NHL 08
    NHL 2K8

    Platinum Hits:

    Disney/Pixar's Cars
    F.E.A.R.
    WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2007

PLUS: I spent over 2 1/2 hours at various locations cataloguing every package offer and insert variant that I could find, or had never seen before.

(For Example: Stuntman: Ignition has 6 (yes 6!) releases (an offerless version, a movie ticket version, and 4 retail exclusives); Eragon has 3 releases (an offerless version and 2 different movie related offers); Cabela's Alaskan Adventures has 3 releases as well (an offerless version, and 2 different magazine related offers).)

Believe me, the list is very, very big.

It will take me a little while to incorporate in into the master list, but I will as soon as I can.

Until then - the only other thing I can say is that September will continue to be busy - Skate comes out on Friday, Eternal Sonata next week, and then...

    HALO 3!

    For now - peace!

    WOW!

Another fairly HUGE day in the library of the 360!!

Many releases today and a couple tomorrow.

I'll be updating the list soon.

    New Titles:

    Eternal Sonata
    Skate
    Orochi Warriors
    Juiced 2
    Blazing Angels II

PLUS: Yep, you guessed it - more packaging variants!

(Two of note: LOTR: BFME now is shipped with an ign.com Winner 2006 logo on the insert, and I acutally bought the Battlestations: Midway Sam's Club exclusive - with Sam's Club logo on the insert. Neat!)

The list is getting very, very big. Damn Best Buy and their "CODES"!

It will take me a little while longer to incorporate in into the master list, but I will as soon as I can.

    For now - peace!

And here is a Smack Down Vs Raw Demo. Man it bugs me that these never come out in my area.

Thanks for the links! I haven't seen either of those around here.

I'm curious about the origin of the THPG demo though. Pre-order?
