Classic Gaming Set Up

I am moving soon and I would like to set up all of my systems at once. I know it can be done; what is needed?

I would like to connect to my computer monitor.

Any input would be appriciated. Thank you.

Why hook them up to your monitor? You're complicating what is a very easy thing to do with any television.

Well, take the AV selectors, and hook them in to an XRGB2+. The XRGB2+ allows you to hook the AV selector up to a computer. However, XRGB2+s are expensive: they go for $200 upwards on eBay. You might be able to find an XRGB2 for cheaper, but cheaper is still $100 or more. However, using the XRGB2+ is probably the only way you could hook up your game consoles to a computer.

my question is, can you connect a AV selector to an AV selector? like if i got one that holds up to 6, and then got another one that holds 6 and plugged it into the other (giving me 11 total) would all my systems still work?

or is there an easier way.

The reason I want to use my computer monitor is because the room I will be using is extremely small.

I was thinking using one or more A/V selectors and a tv tuner with a s-video input. Anyone know if this will work?

Yes you can interlink them... creating chains of madness.

ok have you done this before? i remember back in the day i used to chain my RF adapters i got NES, SNES, Genesis, N64, PS1...in whichever order all in a chain, and only 3 out of the 5 worked. so..chaining more than 3 systems for me wouldnt work. thats why i was curious about chaining the AV selectors.

If you have a PC, you can use the Adaptec Gamebridge. I have one and so far it's working fine. The only problem is that sometimes the sound messes up a little, and that you need at least a 1.3 Ghz PC to run it. Still, it lets my monitors do double duty as TV's and computer monitors.

Then I have 8 4-way switchboxes hooked up to it, one to each port.

Then I have a master list that shows what each is numbered, so I know if I want to play NES I'll need to put the big switchbox on 4, and switchbox number three on 2.

So really all you need is more money and time than common sense.

The only thing I am having trouble imagining is hooking up more than 8 systems in a room that's too small to put a television in ...

Get a portable DVD player with video in to it's screen and then hook all your systems to it...

Flack this sounds organized, and something i would like to do for my set up. you have no problems with that many things chained together? it all works just like it is plugged into the television?

You guys are all nuts. There is no nead to daisy chain or jimmy-rig your systems if you just do a little bit of research.

Get a Pelican System Selector Pro and be done with it.

I've had mine for a few years--and it supports 8 seperate HD sources for $75 with minimal signal loss. A small handful of DP users have a two of these hooked up, which will let you run 15 systems (one out/in needs to chain them together).

I can also vouch for the Pelican. I do not have two daisy chained, but the item itself works great, especially for the price. Keep in mind that it is a selector and does not convert signals. Any type of cable you plug in to the selector will be output through the same kind of cable to your monitor/tv.

Also, as additional information, I tried contacting Pelican to get old school console labels for it. They sent me extras of the ones that came in the box. So, clearly they don't make any NES, SNES, SMS, etc. labels, but they did send me some extras. I guess if you know what they mean, that's all that matters. Still having multiple slots labeled "Game Console" is better than having a Turbo-Grafx labeled as a VCR or something...

Try to get all your systems modded for S-Video if possible.

If not, well just get A/V until the Turbografx-16.

I have two Pelican System Selector Pros, one for consoles connected via s-video, the other for composite.

I created colored labels for each system and printed them on sticker paper and overlayed the unit labels. Each system has its official logo.
