Default Willy Beamish - Sega CD

    Anybody remember this game?

I remember playing this way back in '96 or so when I got my first Sega CD. From what I remember it was an adventure game about a kid in school and stuff and it had animated cutscenes and stuff.

I think I remember the loading was long but not much else...

Is this game even worth me trying to track down and play again and finish??? (For nostalgia's sake?)

I used to have that game. It was quite fun. It's one of the Sega CD games I want to hunt down next.

The Sega CD version lets you play the Nintari game, but other than that the load times make it basically unbearable. Play a PC version.

The Amiga version has excellent music, the Mac version works well too and has good sound and music too. The Sega CD version actually gave voices to the characters but the sound effects and music are not quite as good as the Amiga version (my opinion).

Try to play this with WinUAE as it works really good and can be installed onto the virtual hard drive in WinUAE.

If you are going to play the PC version try to get the CD version as it has the enhanced voices while the floppy versions did not.

This is one seriously fun game that in my opinion is wayyyyyy overdue for a remake or sequel.

All the versions let you play the Nintari console since you have to play it at one point in the game to practice for the championships.

Does ANYONE on this board have the wristwatch that was a mail in offer during the later releases of the game?

I hear the watch is just just a cheapie white plastic watch but I sure would love to see one / buy one from someone one day. I have been looking for one of these watches for years!!

This game is real special to me and I seem to come back to it over and over again after all of these years!

Fun game but the load times are a bitch. They're almost as bad as Oblivion.

What he said I've got one listed in my sale thread (shameless plug) and thats the reason why. Fun game but the load times were horrible imo. Maybe I'm just impatient.

it was one of the first CD based games I played when i was younger. I thought "wow, look at the cartoony graphics and real voices." it did have long loading times but I didn't care because sega cd was my favorite back then. Good game.

I also remember playing this game when it first came out and I thought too "nice cartoon-looking game, voices and nice music", but, as I had read in reviews, the load times were indeed bad. I actually just received this game again and tried it after all these years....and I have the same exact feelings on it that I had back then....and, yes, the load times are still pretty bad I think thats the only bad thing about the game, honestly. Its understandable since it was one of the first generation Sega CD titles and programmers didnt learn the tricks to minimize loading times till much later in the Sega CDs life.

I don't know if anybody else has had this problem, but...

I bought a front-loading model 1 Sega CD at launch, and it was riddled with problems. It would crash and lock up quite frequently, and I was never totally sure why. People with top loaders didn't have these problems.

Willy Beamish crashed all the time because the long load times and incessant, noisy disc reads left it vulnerable to freezes for some reason. It would often lock up in the middle of a load. So, while the game is awesome, the load times were a particular issue for me. Don't know if it's ever been a problem for anybody else, but I figured I'd post it anyway.

I have a factory sealed copy of this game as well as two disc only copies for Sega CD. If you guys are interested I can get you the CD only ones for cheap ($5). The factory sealed copy would be $30 though.

Hmm...The factory sealed copy is tempting. BUT it's factory sealed, and I wouldn't want to open it to play it. But I'd want to play it. Let me think about it, and if someone doesn't grab it before me, I might. Though I could get a factory sealed copy and a disc only copy....

Hello....I am 8 years too late but I am wondering if you are still out there and will ever see this! I have a Willy Beamish wristwatch in perfect condition!. This was one of if not my favorite computer game when I was a kid growing up in the early 90s. I had the original box-set and i remember sending away for the watch. The most amazing thing is that I had not seen the watch once since probably 1995 or 1996, I assumed it was lost forever, but then all of a sudden very recently in the year 2015 my mom presented me with the watch! (she had had it the entire time tucked away somewhere being saved). I was floored.

I have both this and Rise of the Dragon. As a kid, this was one of those games I read about but never got to play via sources like InterAction Magazine (god I love old-school Sierra). Playing it now, it does seem to have charm, and I like some of the assholish things you can make Beamish say (I especially love how you can piss the principle off so much that he expels you and you get shipped to military school).

One thing the Sega CD version has I'm sure the PC one doesn't: the lid of Billy's desk has "Sega rules!" written on it.

That said, like others have stated the load times are a bitch in a half shell. They drag down what seems to be an excellent game.
