    Default N64 Overclocking

Well, I've done some reading up on it, seen tutorials and read about the black ones not working with the mod. Does anybody know if its due to overheating that the old grey n64 wont work? Me and my mates are craving some 4 player PD real bad, dont want lag =/

If you did worry about over heating just get a better heat sink.

I never seen any lag in PD? By lag you mean the realistic slowdown of graphics that is when the game is rendered too perfectly and presents a time shift?

First off, it won't work on an older black/gray N64. Second off, even on "Funtastic" N64's some just don't work well overclocked, no matter how much extra cooling you give it. Some can handle it, some can't. Third off, PD uses the CPU clock to time the game, so the game will be moving at the overclocked speed. 60 second in game time will equate to about 40 seconds on your watch in real life.

Lastly, my overclocked N64 is one of the ones that doesn't work well, and can't run newer and more intense games, but it was still worth it to me, for the $5 I spent doing it. I have lots of fun with older games, and underclocking the system is nifty too.

Well, I have 2 n64's so i was gonna overclock one and use it just for multiplayer PD. Rugal, PD can drop to 10FPS with 4 players and 8 bots =/
Vectorman, if i install it with a switch and the overclock is unstable i can just switch it back and it will be fine yeah?

As long as everything is installed correctly, yes, the switch would return it back to functioning normally.

Ok, The tutorials are not to detailed, but one said to lift the pins off the boards, the other one didn't, should i be lifting them off or just soldering the wire onto them? Also on the tut it shows what capacitor to solder it to and what side is what voltage BUT it doesn't say where abouts to solder it on the capacitor.

Sorry for all this noobish hassle =p

You will need to carefully lift the traces off of the board to solder to. You want to make sure they don't break as you bend them up from the board slightly. I think I used an exacto knife or a dentists pic to help me lift them - it definitely helped make it easier.

As far as the ground on the capacitor. Just solder to the PCB right where it says in the link. You don't need to actually solder anything onto the capacitor.

Okay, im almost ready, just one last question,. Is it hard to get the pins BACK into the motherboard? If it is, how did you do it?
