Talking S-Video jack for Genesis Model 1 help

Hello all. I tried to mod my genesis and ended up frying the system, so now im back and going to try again. If anyone has a Gen Model 1 modded with a S-video and can open it up and shoot some pixs for me, or has a detailed diagram of how to install all the stuff, please respond in this thread or PM me. Thanks all for the great advice.

That won't work correctly on a v1 Genesis. Bright images make the picture unstable.

There are many different ways to approach the mod, so it's tough to really answer your question. There is a PDF that shows the procedure on a Neo Geo AES, which shows the correct circuit & is a good template for the Genesis 1. The big difference is that you can ditch the RF modulator if you want and put the jack there, which is how I've done all of mine.

Same spots, really. You just need Y/C/+5/GND.

Here's the 1st one I ever did. I use a different s-video jack now, but not much else has changed.

Looks phenomenal, but difficult. Are you doing this mod for a charge FABombjoy?

There are some good pics on my site for ideas regarding jack placement. FABombjoy's idea to put it where RF was (and removing the RF module) is a good one, as it preserves upgradeability fairly well.

    Pics: http://www.oldschoolgamer.ca/information.aspx?SID=14

Back mount like I did on my first one pictured looks good, but say goodbye to functionality with a Power Base Converter. Left side mounted gives full compatibility with all upgrades, SEGACD and PBC.

It's a good idea to give it some thought before going willy nilly drilly. =)

thanks for that info also. Im probably going to position it where i could use the RF if my S-video slot is already being used by my Saturn.. Go Sega!

Where can one find a good board mountable female S-video connector?

I need one for a similar project, would Radio Shack carry them?

Possibility is infinity! You must be satisfied!

"panel mount" is the designation you are looking for. They can be hard to find. Sometimes they are not called S-Video, but '4 pin mini DIN".

Just to make things a bit trickier I guess.

Can't be nay harder to find than an 8-pin DIN cable.

5-pin are common (MIDI) cables, but 8-pin?
