Default NES Zapper on LCD TV?

Is it possible to use an NES zapper on an LCD TV? I am itching to play Gumshoe,
Duckhunt, and Hogans Alley............but I am a victim of new technology!

Since LCD and Plasma TVs don't have scan lines, thats a big no. Hook your NES up to a CRT and blast away if you can.

Do the Guncons for PS1/PS2 work the same way (with scan lines)?

Not sure how they work, but I can confirm they won't register.

And when AGBulls says CRT, keep in mind a HD CRT won't work either. Learned that the hard way.

Yes, Guncons work with scan lines as well. I know this from personal experience when I use to run an EB, and customers returned Time Crisis 2 all the time.

The really funny thing is that light gun tech hasn't changed since the NES. From the zapper to the super scope to the menacer to the guncon--its all the same crap.

I know there is some "next gen" light guns coming fairly soon that I've seen somewhere, but have no clue on how those work.

Well, at this rate, gun games will die off soon!?!?!?! That's a shame . Anyway, does anyone remember those Captain Power games? Yeah, it was VHS, but I wonder if it would be possible to use that flashing method at a higher frequency.

Don't forget also that Gamestop had a lsiting for Time Crisis 4 for the PS3 so it'll be interesting to see how and what Namco has done for their GunCon 3 model. I figure it HAS to be able to be used on both SD and HD tvs (if not, they'd be alienating a LOT of people who dont have HDTVs yet), so Im thinking it could be something like a Wii sensor bar type thing for it, thus it could be use don any tv. I guess we'll see.....

    NEXT GEN IS WIIMOTE

There is a Wii Blaster listed on Gamestop.com (just search wii blaster)

Its listed at 19.99, but theres no detailed info on what it looks like, or if its an attachment.

I wouldn't mind looking at some HD gun games. A question though is are the new guns going to work with scan lines? I'd certainly hope they would but MS and Sony want to head into the HD world pretty fast.

    Default hmmm....

There is a gun that will work with the GunCon2 and newer sets. Uses a sensor similar to the Wii's atop the set. I lost track of the website though.

I know there are other options. This gun is probably not the best.

Oh god that lightgun looks ghetto! It'd feel like I'm using one of those cheesy laser tag guns.

Yeah, but if it works for PSOne, I would get one just to play Elemental Gearbolt with a gun again.

The problem with the original power glove is that it was designed for 19" or smaller TV's! I guess Nintendo never imagined the day people would own bigger TV's!

I don't think that there's much hope to get an NES Zapper working with an LCD without some serious modifications.

I'd love to see what will happen to light gun games in the future. Time Crisis 4 for the PS3 should be interesting to see. I also wonder what kind of light gun technology they use in something like the 62" House of the Dead 4 cabinet.

I'd guess that most of the problems of using the old light gun technology with HD sets is due to input lag as it's pretty difficult to eliminate it entirely if any upscaling is going on.

I remember Captain Power! If you aimed it at a lamp or in the mirror, it would add points to your score.

It was a really pointless toy.

I have a rear projection CRT television. Yes, it's HD, but I play my NES in SD, of course. And the zapper doesn't work on it.

you can use that to play playstation, playstation 2, and xbox games on LCD TV's. Possibly with a converter you can use it for dreamcast and saturn.

Thanks to Alexey in Russia, he's begun modding NES roms to adjust the delay settings! Several have tested and report great results. One caveat, the original zappers are too primitive, this needs a better LED, and it's suggested to use a modern 3rd party zapper like the Tomee.
