Default My eyesight gets all messed up after playing a song in Guitar Hero 2, is this bad?

I just got this game today (my first GH) and after playing the first song it went back to menus and I said to myself damn these menus are annoying because they seemed all wavey and moving a bit. Didnt think of it and went onto next song, but after this song was over I took a glance at my clock and my vision was all screwed up! things seemed like they were gorwing and shrinking, twirling, whatever. Sorta like if you ever did one of those things where you stare at something spinning for a long time then look at your hand and it seems to twist, well ya same effect here.

This happens after every song I play, I sit approx 7-8 feet from screen and wear glasses, the effect goes away after about 15 seconds. I used to play games like frequency however I never recall ever having severe vision side effects such as this.

Just wondering if anyone else has this problem with this game or any other one, and if its potentialy hazardous for my eyes...

    You have epilepsy, unfortunately.

Do not play Everquest, or you will die.

Are there a bunch of flashing lights on the screen or anything? Is it possible for you to play without your glasses on? It might not be bad, but it's something you need to get checked out if it continues.

I've personally never played Guitar Hero, but I know that when I'm riding a train and staring out the window at the ground for a while, and the train stops, I've still got the illusion of the ground moving away from me. This wears off after a couple of seconds. I don't think it's anything to be concerned about, don't know if your case is similar.

I think its because I am staring at a fixed place on screen while it has a constantly moving background...however my 360 just broke today the day I get game....so now In a way GH2 is gonna cost me $240 to play with repair costs.

I'd see a doctor... I guess the acid trips are included with GH2! lol

I have perfect eyesight, and I see the same thing after I play. The same thing would happen to me with Frequency and Amplitude, too. I think it's kinda cool, myself.

It's because the notes are scrolling towards you and you're concentrating on them very intently. Your eyes adjust to the movement and take a bit to realize that things aren't moving when you look away.

I had some family members over for Easter and they noticed the same thing.

It happens for me as well. I take a break between songs.

I get the same thing here, but usually only after playing a few songs in a row. Try to move your eyes around the screen a bit more.

I'm surprised all of you are acting the way you are. It just happens, like you compared it to an optical illusion, that's all it really is. Over time it'll go away, but when I first started playing GH1 back in the day (same for DDR, now that I think about it) it would happen between every song, now it rarely happens, if at all.

It happens to me too. After every song I would just have to close my eyes for a while.

I wonder if, somehow, this could evolve into a class action lawsuit...

The same thing happens to me after playing GHII. I was wondering what was happening.

I guess if you're gonna have acid trips while playing a game, GH 2 makes the most sense haha

It's more of a brain than a vision thing. You could compare it to what your eyes do when you spin around really fast about 10 times and get dizzy. I got kind of tired of it so I learned to play most songs without looking at the screen too much.

Same here. I just gave Jordan on Expert a good hour of effort (with the hyperspeed cheat on) and my whole body is recovering right now, hehe.

I'll chime in as well as one who's felt the effect. Honestly, until you mentioned it, I didn't even realize that it was happening because I rarely look away from the screen when I'm playing a game. I just thought the menus were a little wonky. Like someone said before me, it's really not that different from the effect you'd get looking at an optical illusion because you're focusing on one space for a couple of minutes (which is a lot longer than most illusions take to work).

Now that we've settled that this effect is natural, if only there were some way to neutralize the collective feelings about the insane pricing (and coincidental lameness) of the new song pack downloads....

The reason I'd see a doctor is a two parter. First, the epilepsy concerns. It warrants checking into, though it could be a form of motion sickness. Better safe and eliminate the possibility of epilepsy I say. Sencond is that I have never experienced this issue myself... even after 8+ hour sessions on GH with no breaks, my eyes are normal aside from the expected eye strain. You get that just from viewing a monitor though.
