    Default Dead game genie...

I dunno if my game genie -(SNES)- is busted or not. I got it used online recently and just tried it out. It seems to work fine w/title screen-code entry-etc, but none of the codes work when you enter them.
Was'nt there like a lockout thing put in some models of the SNES, or do i remember that right ?

Anyway i've gotten codes from numerous sources online and i'm stumped. Any info appreciated...

    Thx,
    Chu

I think there were a few "versions" of the GG made to counteract whatever Nintendo did to prevent the use of a GG.

I'm not sure how you tell which one to use though.

When you are at the code screen, is the yellow "-" (dash) already present for all 5 codes, or is it only added after you enter the first 4 digits? If it's the former, you have a 1.0 Game Genie.

If you're using the redesigned compact SNES, the Game Genie 1.0 won't work at all as you described. Only the first and last code lines will work on the 2.0

Also, the switch on the front must be up (green LED is on) for codes to be active.

    LED is on...
Dashes are'nt added untill after the first 4 digits are entered...
    Old style model 1 SNES...

    Grrrrr...

Anyone got a few confirmed-to-work Mario World codes i could try out just in case ? This is kind of a new thing to me, so maybe i'm just getting my codes from the wrong sources or something... I'm stumped.

Sometimes there are two different versions of games that require a different set of codes to work.

I'll use "Revenge of Shinobi" on Genesis as an example. There was the original release and a "Classics" release and both releases use different codes to get the same effect.

Sometimes some games have two no so obvious "versions" and the codebook includes some different codes (marked A and B) that you can try.

I'm not really sure if "Super Mario World" has two different codes (I don't have an SNES GG) but it is something to consider.

Okay, it's a possibility. I'm kind of working blind tho b/c it was just a loose one in the orig. box, but with no manual/codebook.

I'm guessing this place has good codes:

    http://www.themushroomkingdom.net/smw_ggcodes.shtml

I'd try one code at a time and see if they work.

Also be aware that some games require a "Master Code" for other codes to work. Also some codes will not work when used with others. This applies to every GG i've ever tried.

there were several versions of the snes and genie, there was several model 1 variations (not just the re-designed snes) that had problems with the first few releases of the genie. I Know my friend had a snes that worked with one of my genies but not the other (totally wasted my time loading two genies together before we figured this out) thats most likely your problem with it, might want to try another snes console or another genie whatever is cheaper in your area.
