Default Modem for the Super Famicom ?

I just found a modem for the Super Famicom system, it comes with a unit and a specially designed controller with the "NTT Data" (NTT stands for Nippon Telegraph and Telephone) and Nintendo logos on it. I was surprised to find such device as I thought the Satellaview was the only "modem like unit" for the Super Famicom... Does anyone know anything about it ? I can post images if anyone's interested... thanks for your help

I'm sure there was a thread on this a while back....

From what I can remember, it's so you can bet on horses. Maybe a bit of banking, but I'm sure gambling was the main use.

NTT Dokomo, iirc, is the only phone company in Japan. Japan has this weird habit of having officially sanctioned monopolies and oligopolies. I believe only five companies are allowed to make beer.

    Thanks a lot guys !
Yep, it makes total sense, the modem came with a cartridge of JRA Pat.
This is really interesting 'cause I know Nintendo initially put a network together with the Famicom, and this for horse racing, banking etc... so I guess this modem for the Super Famicom was to carry on using the existing network, and it probably came out before the Satellaview.
