The local Play n Trade was clearing out some stuff today. They had a stack of magazines and strat guides for a buck a piece and I wound up picking up a copy of "Game Player's" magazine vol 1, no 1 as well as their Nintendo Buyers Guide, again vol 1, no 1.

They brought back some memories, have things like "Super Mario Bros REVEALED!" and have preview shots of classic games. The issue dates are April/May 1989. Not bad for two dollars.

Today, at Play N Trade, I grabbed a few 3DO games, as I just bought a 3DO FZ-1 console on eBay. Should be here in a week or so.

Here are the games I picked up:

Super Street Fighter II Turbo (Disc-only in jewel case) ($4)
Return Fire (Complete in Jewel case, but no longbox) ($0. They didn't have a price in the system so they gave it to me for free!)
Alone In The Dark (Disc-only in CDR jewel case) ($4)
Out Of This World (Complete in badly-damaged longbox) ($7)
Space Ace (Complete in longbox) ($7)

Also grabbed NBA Jam Tournament Edition for the SNES for $0.94.

Sunday is definitely the day to go to the local PnT. I'll go back in a few weeks to get more 3DO stuff as well as a few Lynx games they've got. First, I've gotta find my Lynx...

My local-ish PnT closed last fall... They were only open for about a year.

Ditto. The ones I have to go to now are quite a distance away. That and I knew the guys there very well. Great bunch, sucks they folded.

    First finds of May...finally!

I noticed on amazon that the final fantasy vii guidebook is going for $100. Is that the going rate of that thing? Either way, I'm quite proud of my finds today, even though they did make me 10 mins late for work this morning, haha!

Yes, it can. Seeing my brother's work, I think it uses the camera and processes the image, which I assume is the same way the iphone works. They don't have an actual barcode scanner.

Went to Goodwill and got two things. Jeopardy for the SNES for $1 was one of them.

The other was Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail by 7th Level for $1 as well. I've never seen the movie, but I probably should, because after playing this I have no idea what is going on. Nice graphics and sound for 1996, though.

Lol, this is the first time Yahoo has been more useful than Google. Here's some more info about the buckle I bought, just in case anybody else was wondering about it. Extra neat!

Got a lot of stuff today from different places - great in terms of finding cool stuff, but a bad, bad, bad day for the wallet...

    From Movie Trading Company:

Time Crisis 4 (PS3) - complete minus outer box $39.99

Rock band: Beatles (360) - $9.98 from Target clearance
    Fighters Megamix (saturn) complete
    Independence Day (Saturn) complete
Both saturn games for $12 delivered off eBay

    From Half Price Books:

    Power Stone 2 (Dreamcast) complete
    Project Justice (Dreamcast) Complete
Both for $80. ugh. Well, I saw these over the weekend and really wanted them, but at $50 each I thought it was too much. So today I went back to return some other games that I had and talked to the manager who knows me pretty good and gave me a "deal" that came to about 25% off. So I took it and think that $40 each for these isn't great, but it sure isn't terrible and they are in MINT shape - not a single scratch. Now I just have to hide them from my wife for awhile.

    Today's finds:

Time Bandits (single disc Anchor Bay DVD, brand new)
    Grim Fandango (PC, discs only)

    $3 for both.

There was one booth that said they had a bunch of Dreamcast games, but I got bored waiting for them to finish setting up so I'll see what they have tomorrow morning.

    Edited to add:
Wait, I forgot to mention my moment of utter loss.

I was at a booth and I noticed a CD case with a familiar image on it... it turned out to be the soundtrack to Pretzel Pete, a game that was never released according to Hardcore Gaming 101 - and yet, I own a sealed copy.

Anyway, I picked up the case, shocked at finding such a rare item - only to see that the CD was missing, instead there was a CD from a stupid Mexican folk band. I dug around and couldn't find the Pretzel Pete CD.

I'm so pissed off right now. :\

The dude on the Time Crisis package looks like Axl Rose when he had those really bad dreads!
Condoleezza Rice is nice, but I prefer A Roni!

EPIC FAIL ALERT!! I tried my luck at ordering the "super rare" Fritz Chess for the Wii from Gamestop.com hoping to get a complete copy. But I got this instead....

I think I can return it to my local store. Maybe I'll put it on ebay first to see if it will sell for like $40 loose.

And that's a perfect example why I won't give GameStop any of my business.

I did a little thrifting once I got off work, only found these three Tiger Electronics handhelds. The Marble Madness and Baseball were $1.99 each, but the Pinball had no price tag, so she rang it up at 50¢ which I thought was odd. I also picked up that odd looking GameCube controller that I've never come across before. It's by a company called Rosen, which I'm not familiar with.

The thrift also had a box of Atari 2600 games, all laid on their sides in a cardboard box. I could tell by their cartridge cases that they were mostly third-party games, but couldn't tell what they were until the lady brought them out of the case for me. They were mostly slightly-less-than-commons. I was getting excited though, as I would turn over each cart hoping for some crazy rare game. Like a scratch-off ticket, and like scratch-offs, I ultimately lose.

I didn't get to go out last weekend, but this weekend pretty much completely made up for that. So...

This past weekend's stuff (click pics for full-size):

GEN Combat Cars, Streets of Rage, Streets of Rage 2, $3 for all
NES Super Mario 64, Super Smash Bros., $5 for both
GC-GBA cable, GBC GameShark Pro, N64 Rumble Pack, $2 for all

Not much to say about these. I'm up to 2 copies of SoR and 4 copies of SoR2, and I still can't get my hands on a complete copy of either. Bleh.

Sega Saturn w/2 controllers (no AC, no AV/RF), $3

The guy selling this originally wanted $5, but when I couldn't find the cables in the box, I countered with $3. He accepted. The Eclipse pad feels great, but I haven't had a chance to try it out yet.

    Mega Play Magazine
XB Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords strategy guide, $1 for both

Mega Play! I cringe everytime I think back to when I threw a bunch of these away in high school.

DC Marvel vs. Capcom 2, GigaWing (complete), Mars Matrix (complete; manual has some damage), $15 for all

I didn't realize that I already owned GigaWing until I got home. I hate when that happens.

DVD Looney Tunes Golden Collection, $3

This one was originally $5, but the dad and son that were running the sale didn't seem like they cared very much for it, so I offered $3 and they took it. I love old Looney Tunes and I don't see these on TV much anymore. Totally worth it.

GEN Dynamite Headdy (complete), Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition (complete), Genesis Cleaning System
GC Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker (missing manual, Mario Party 4 (missing manual), PS2 .hack//Infection (complete), $10 for all

Go figure that right after I find a complete copy of Dynamite Headdy, I find another just a few weeks later. That almost always happens. I already have a 3rd-party Genesis cleaner, but it's cool to have the official one in the box, too. .hack//Infection is just like Dynamite Headdy. I just found this same game a couple weeks ago!

XB Star Wars: Battlefront II (missing manual)
GC Alien Hominid (new & sealed), $8 for both

I don't know why Alien Hominid is sealed; I didn't ask and I'm not complaining. The seller originally wanted $10 for both. I countered with $8, and was denied. I did the "slowly walking away thing" and the guy called after me with $9. I shook my head and kept walking. He finally caved and hollered, "Okay, eight!".

NES Mag Max, Destination Earth Star, Beeshu Zipper control pad, $3 for all

Aw yeah, that Beeshu pad is the stuff! Dumb name, cool colors, I'm there! It actually plays great, and seems like a knock-off of a Hudson Joycard Sansui SSS, but without the headphone output. I love accessories like this.

GEN Batman Returns (complete), Eternal Champions (missing manual), Marbel Madness (missing manual), Sub Terrania (missing manual), $5 for all

Nothing fancy here. I just wish Marble Madness had its manual.

NES "Top Loader" system w/NES Max controller and NES Satellite (no AC, no AV/RF)
NES Super C, Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse, Destiny of an Emperor, Stinger, Spot: The Video Game, Mega Man, Tecmo Super Bowl (complete), 2 game sleeves, $10 for all

Yay! I finally got my beloved Mega Man back in my collection. I'm also glad to have found the Satellite. I've never owned one before, but I used to have a friend that did and always thought it was cool-looking. This sucker's pretty much brand new although the box has some wear: all of the original documents are included, and they've obviously never been unfolded or read. Also, the Satellite and receiver thingy are both in their original plastic bags, and they smell exactly like new NES hardware did back in the day! My friend didn't believe me until he smelled it himself and his eyes bugged out. It's kinda spooky. I have a lot of other brand new stuff that didn't retain the original smell for whatever reason, but this thing has it in spades.

I already have a top loader, but at that price, I couldn't resist adding it to the pile.

There's one more find I couldn't post a picture for, but you can click below to see it:

Atari 2600 Skate Boardin' and 7800 Galaga cartridges
    . $1 for both

    That's my first 7800 game.
