it's a good place, and they have a decent amount of game shops there. But if you're looking for good games in the Central Florida area, i often prefer Flea World since they usually have 2 or 3 shops that sell the classic game consoles which are often hard to find (i.e. Turbo Grafx and Sega Master System).

Flea World is pretty barren for good deals these days, and I know the owner of Game Trader in D row. The other places are usually pretty over priced if not they are on the dot for retail. Every now and then there is a person in the "Yard Sale" area as my friends call it that has a random box of game stuff for cheap. I've been going there for somewhere in the 13 year range now. I remember there use to be a second game dealer in D row right across from the food stall. Then Gus the Owner of Cybertron that use to be in the gold building opened a store in Mascotte and shut down the Flea World location.

A few things this weekend, which was nice as finds have been pretty slim as of late.

First was the most disorganized estate sale I had ever been to. Items still in kitchen cabinets, an unlocked bathroom (that had people using it constantly), food in the pantry, and a lead seller pricing things with her heart rather than her head. Very rude, arguing with people simply asking prices, completely unprepared for what an estate sale entails. The home must have belonged to an architect and engineer because there were two really nice drafting tables, a fold out drafting table in one of the closets, another closet was stacked floor to ceiling with blueprints and circuit design diagrams. Out in the garage I found a dust covered, but boxed, TI-99/4A that I carried around with me as I checked out the rest of the house. They had a huge old Meccano set inside but when I saw how the lead seller was pricing things I didn't even bother to ask.

She was standing in the living room and an impromptu line formed in front of her. A woman three up from me in line inquired about a decorative plate, probably $25 new, and was told $50. She said she'd think about it and disappeared. Next person in line had a pair of small glass jars with cork stoppers, stuff you'd find at a dollar or craft store - price was $10 for the pair. She too walked away and disappeared back into the house. At that point I got out of line, remembering a guy out in the garage pricing some stuff. I headed for him and when I got there the woman with the plate was in front of me, asked for a price, and he told her $2. I could tell he was making deals on the stuff out there so I asked him about the computer, to which he replied that he didn't know, five bucks for the old TI? That was fine by me as it was what I was thinking as well. My mom was there too and she got the same crazy price for some Christmas stuff from the lady inside. She went to head out to ask the guy in the garage when she was stopped by another "organizer" who said the indoor stuff had to be sold inside and made a fair price with her.

The computer is in really nice shape, with the box and foam insert. Power supply and RF modulator are inside and have their cardboard packaging. Also had a computer cover and a Disk Manager 2 cartridge. I did look around for other TI stuff while I was there but didn't see anything else. I come across TI-99/4A's at the electronics flea market all the time but they are beat to shit. As I love the Tomy Tutor I'm looking forward to exploring its distant older cousin.

Aside from that I picked up a copy of Megaman X Collection for the PS2 for $20 to support local retail jobs where my parents live. My girlfriend was visiting her parents in Southern California and noticed that the Piccadilly notebooks I use, that have been on clearance for some time, were in stock at a Barnes & Noble she was at down there. Piccadilly no longer sells directly to the public so the last of their single piece and retail inventory is slowly drying up. She got me three black and four red college ruled notebooks for $4.10 a piece after an additional discount. She also picked up a few other products for herself. These are spectacular, essentially the same thing as the overpriced Moleskine scam notebooks, and are usually half the price. I use them for technical notes, research notes, game password and code archival, drawing maps for games, etc. After I order a couple more of the gridded technical notebooks online I'll be set for the next few years.

That's where i often go to, the Game Trader store. Last time i went there, i got Teddy Boy for 5 bucks (it was originally 7 bucks, but the owner reduced the price for me after i explained to him about the short lived history of the Sega Card games). As for Cybertron, i was often lucky there when it came to SMS games, and the last time i visited there before the closure of the FW branch i got about 5 or 6 games (including Time Soldiers, Space Harrier, and a few of the "Great" sports series).

Forgot to post this from the 21st. Almost missed it completely on the shelves, but my daughter was enthralled by an animatronic cat, so we were stuck in that area for a couple minutes. After a couple old ladies (that were also enthralled by the cat) moved along, I saw this behind where they had been.

$1.41. Missing the Encyclopedia, but has the manual and the cartridge is perfect. Bonus points for a bunch of old notes/codes and a felt tip pen!

I found Black Belt and Space Harrier for Master System, both CIB (carts in great shape, manuals not so much) for $3 total.

I picked up a Sega Genesis Kiosk this evening. The seller had it on Craigslist as a "Sega Genesis Game", with no mention in the ad about the kiosk, console, and demo system attached to the game(s). The man who put out the ad was a very friendly older gentleman who was only just starting to learn how to use a computer. His kids had shown him how to get on the internet and a co-worker had told him about Craigslist. Needless to say, the price was very reasonable.

The kiosk is in overall great shape. All of the original parts are present and accounted for. The television displays a sharp, vibrant picture that is free of burn-in. Inside the unit is the DS-16 Demo System, which when hooked up to the button at the front of the kiosk lets you select between 6 cartridges. There is a switch on the back of the demo system that lets you select between forcing a game switch every 10 minutes (demo mode) and unlimited free play. Unfortunately, the top logo is a bit yellowed from sun exposure and the poster at the bottom is completely faded. There is also a small hole next to the controller mount. I don't know what caused it, but I'm making full use of it by routing the second controller through it. Perhaps the original owner got tired of playing solo? I'll find a replacement poster for the bottom (I'll just slide it in in-front of the old one) and I'm considering using RetroBright to restore the logo. Overall, I'm very happy with it.

This has been a great month for me. I started off by receiving a PS3 Kiosk from GameStop and now I'm finishing the month with another kiosk.
Now I just need to figure out what 6 games I want in the unit.

Some last minute minor February finds. I've been in a real slump lately, can't wait for the Flea Markets to open up again. Found all of these at a used game store at the local mall this evening...

Adventure Island (NES) $4 - A game I've never owned. But clearly a gap that needed feeling. The hard part comes next, as every sequel it has appears to be uncommon or rare.
Sonic Adventure (DC) $8 - I was thumbing through the Dreamcast pile, not expecting much. Then I pulled out a game call Armada, at least that's what the case said, inside was Sonic Adventure. So I snapped that up. Unfortunately I got it home to discover the game was rather scratched up, and would not play. I'm either going to take it back for a refund, or, preferably, see if the shop can refurbish it. I remember the guy there once saying his had a heavy duty disc refinisher.
Under a Killing Moon (PC) $3 - I thought my shopping trip was over after I check out with the above two games, but on my way out the door my eyes snapped to this just hanging out with a wall of Music CDs. Like it was just waiting for me personally. I'm a bit of an Adventure Game(TM) buff, but the Tex Murphy series has always been a major gap in my canon. Its my understanding that Under a Killing Moon is one of the best in the series, so I was really glad to find it. I've already gone through the process of getting it running via DOSBox too, so I'm hyped.

Actually, Super Adventure Island isn't all too hard to come by/cheap for SNES standards around $8-10 and is DEFINITELY worth a purchase if you liked the first for the yuzo koshiro music alone.

They give out free items like DLC packs, they rarely give games. I lucked out, the keys were region locked to the US and most of the world, but all the European users got screwed. A lot of keys were also stolen by jerks who'll only sell 'em off.

SAI was like the sixth SNES game I ever played (after SMW, SimCity, Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts, Lemmings and F-Zero), and it's amazing I ever played the other AI games. :P
Even then I thought it was a pretty generic sidescroller. Not a terrible game, just generic. It is definitely a step backward after AI 2 and 3 (3 was released on the NES the same year!).

I like to think of the adventure island series as having two branches: one that kept it traditional (adventure island NES, new adventure island TG16, Super Adventure Island SNES) and the other one that added dinosaurs (Adventure Island 2, 3 and 4 NES and their respective gameboy ports). For what it's worth, SNES adventure island changes a considerable amount in how the original is played, mainly by making the amount of axes/boomerangs you can fire at once upgradable and adding the crouch-jump ala mario 2 but much better executed.

And the music. HOLY FUCK, the music.

I mean, listen to this. This is on Plok levels of amazing.
