You did a great job with your gameroom. My problem is that my game room is just a small spare room (with a full closet!). I don't have the space for shelves so almost everything is in boxes/ bins. I hope to someday get it together so it will be presentable in the room of doom area. Very nice job with yours!

Default What it lacks in Atari, it makes up for with Vectrex.

Looks superb. Very nicely done. And the paint job on that ceiling panel is the figurative cherry on the top.

Do you ever try to jump and hit your head on the question mark on the ceiling?

I have quite a few complete Atari 2600 games as well, and a few older games for other systems, too, but I don't have the room for them just yet. I'm eventually going to have to move things to the front room. I need a place for an older CRT Television anyway, since you can't use a light gun on an LCD.

Thanks. It was pretty fun to make. I had to draw a grid pattern and then count out the pixels to get it right. The only problem is that the dimensions are larger than the actual item box sprite, so there's more 'yellow space' than there should be. But it's not that serious. My wife thinks that I should add more, so I'll probably make a few plain brick ones, and maybe one without a '?' on it, like the item boxes that have already been hit.

I thought about doing a few different things with it before deciding on the item box, like a weighted companion cube from Portal, but I decided to keep it old school.

I wouldn't chance it. This is an old country home, and I'm a pretty heavy guy. I'd probably knock the plaster off of the kitchen ceiling downstairs, assuming I didn't go right through the floor. Besides, I'm 6'0 tall and the ceiling up there is only 6'5 or so, so all I have to do it stand on my toes and I'm practically touching it.

I think that Mario and Luigi actually hit the bricks with their hand though. Isn't their fist just above their head when they jump (in the original SMB, anyway)?

    EDIT: Yeah, it is.

That's so tidy it scares me a little bit. Makes me want to build some custom shelves, though. The layout is really nice.

Where do you keep your NES?

Excellent room! Slanted walls are the devil. They kill so much useable (in other rooms) wallspace.
Because it makes no attempt to be great, it is therefore extremely great.

Wow! What a great room! Very tidy and functional - it actually looks like you can go in and GAME in that room! What a concept. I need to post some of my room - which is NOT that neat and tidy. Anyway, I love it but I do have one concern: I don't see a lot of room to add any games that you acquire. Those shelves are pretty tight and the games are wedged in end to end. Where do the new additions go?

I have one stored away somewhere, but I haven't used it in a while. I usually have a Retro Duo set up where the SNES is since it saves space. Any consoles that aren't permanently in the cabinet I just place on top of it when I want to play them. The television has an open set of A/V jacks on the left side of it, so it's easy to hook an alternate system up.

The side of the wall that the television is on will have storage up to the ceiling when I've completed it. It'll probably be a summer project. I also have the first room which I'll most likely extend my game room into eventually.

And the games aren't wedged in quite as tightly as they look. The only games that are a little tricky to pull out are on the ones in the corners. You usually have to take out the game next to them first, and then remove them.

Heh, it was last August, actually. For my birthday. But it was downstairs. It got Nintendo stuff though.

This is exactly the sort of setup I wish I had. Looks like a great room.

Thanks. Most of the older systems look fine on my LCD, surprisingly, but I do get checker boarding on my Nintendo64. I'm planning on getting a SD television for the other half of the upstairs and dedicating it to the retro stuff. I have a bunch more older consoles like the Atari and Intellivision gen stuff that I wouldn't bother setting up on a modern television.

I've gotten quite a few more games since I last posted here and space is becoming more scarce, so I'll have to get on those closet shelves pretty soon. My birthday is next month, and I have a feeling my other half might get me that new Super Sonic statue from First4Figures, so I'll have to find a place for him.

Definitely one of the best (organized) rooms I've seen. And I like the fact that its in an attic.

    Thumbs up

Wow, that looks really good man. You must've put in a lot of time to build all of those shelves. Well done.

Those are cool little figurines on the cupcakes. When I was a kid I got some Super Mario themed cake for one of my birthdays that had little rubber Mario themed figurines on it. Wish I still had the things, But that was like maybe 18 years ago. Lord only knows what happened to them.

Yeah, I thought that they were pretty neat too. All except the Luigi one are fridge/memo magnets, so they're sort of functional, too. The wife was going to make a cake shaped like a race track, but she had a fondant malfunction and ended up going with plan B; cupcakes. She's not exactly a gamer, herself, but she loves doing cool gaming themed stuff for me for holidays and gift giving occasions.

    Looks great!
I think the shelves look fantastic, considering you made them yourself!

If you don't mind my asking, where did you get your "Mario DS/Wiimote holder"??

I'd like to get one for my collection so any info is much appreciated!
