Default "NEW Ghostbusters II" - NES

In the late 80's/early 90's a company named HAL Labratory released a Ghostbusters game called "New Ghostbusters II" for the NES which played different than the other Ghostbusters 2 movie game from Activision. It played like the Ghostbusters 2 Game Boy game. Wikipedia says it was only released in Japan and Europe.

Anyone know what I'm talking about or perhaps own a copy? Where might I look to find it? I never see it on eBay.

I believe it was Europe only. Shame it never was release stateside because it's really a lot of fun and has great music ripped from the film's soundtrack.

I am fortunate enough to own a copy of this game, and it really is a lot of fun. I've seen it on eBay from time to time, but it does seem to be pretty scarce.

I'm 99% sure it was released for the Famicom. Fun, fun game, probably one of the best uses of the Ghostbusters license in gaming ever.

Make that 100%, just checked and confirmed it - both on the Famicom in Japan and a PAL release in Europe.

Yep, we were stuck with the fun but still kinda awful game by Imagineering. That game had good ideas but the sidescrolling stages were pretty annoying.

I believe New Ghostbusters II came out a few years after the movie was released... hence the New in the title.

... I hope you didn't pay much for it, because the Japanese version doesn't really have any Japanese in it. It could've been released exactly as it was in Japan and nobody would notice anything wrong with it.

Hell, I'm surprised there's a -proto- at all.

Kitsune: I got it awhile ago, I know the Euro version and this are very much alike, differences are the Licensed by Nintendo of America legals and Hal Lab logos and legals.

Compared to what some people have paid for protos of released games in NTSC format, this was a bargain.

Trolls in Crazyland NTSC went for $700!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not sure about Japan, but the Activision version of Ghostbusters II did get released in Europe, so I would assume it was also released in Japan.

There's actually a really good multicart out there, a 13-in-1, that contains New Ghostbusters II, Super Mario IV, and 11 other good games (Double Dragon, Ninja Gaiden, Contra, etc).
I'm always looking for new boxed NES accessories. If you've got any for sale, shoot me a PM!

Speedy- Wow!!!!! That multi-cart sounds sweet! Was that a stateside release? New GB2, Double Dragon,Contra, etc. Now that's a treasure!

And a "noob" question for ya- there was a Super Mario IV?

Ryan: Every "multicart" is a pirate of some kind, unless you count the unlicensed stuff.

Here's my copy of this game. And yes, it is the color orange:

NintendoAGE - The best NES database engine available on the net!

My Collection - Well, kinda. One of these days I will actually get a pic of the whole collection and post it on there. Until then, I only have a few games in there with some additional collection info stuff.

I was completely unaware of this "other" Ghostbusters game from Activision. Was it just a 2D platformer, then?

It's more of an action game. You select two busters, the lead one has a proton pack to stun ghosts and the second one has a trap to capture them. The second buster follows the first which the player controls with the directional pad.
