Default I thought this was fascinating, a video that shows what kids look like when gaming

A photographer took these images for a project called Immersion.

    http://video.nytimes.com/video/2008/...immersion.html

It kind of takes me back to watching the intense concentration on my friend's faces as a kid when we would play Super Mario Bros. When we first got it we were so into it that we would jump in our seats and jerk the controller up any time we made Mario make a jump, especially a difficult one.

It's also really obvious these kids are playing some serious M-Rated games. Not just from the recognizable audio but also from some of the things they say, like "Let me stab you" and "how do you feel about bullets?" Change the context of this and it could easily be used in an anti-videogame propaganda campaign.

There's some weird stuff, too. People move their mouths a lot and one kid cries for some reason.

I hope this isn't one of those registration things. I didn't have to register to get to it. I went through this link at Kotaku.

That is very cool. Definitely something a psychologist would love to watch. It's educational, as it shows the impact gaming has.

Some will find it good some will find it bad, but I like how the guy (or girl) who did this had the teenage boy cheer that (he won) at the end, that was a very good choice in how to end it.

Whoever made this is very good at what they do and I think it's art myself (and educational), the human face is truly the best canvas ever. Cool stuff, thanks for sharing.

Pretty funny stuff, interesting, too. What I want to know is where's the kid who throws the controller? Figured there'd be at least one!

I think it would've been more interesting to see the children's faces while playing a bright, fun game like Super Mario Galaxy, instead of a gritty army first-person shooter.

    Exactly.

By the way, how did they get the video camera at eye level without blocking the TV screen?

Most of them look constipated, some look confused, one looks stoned(the long haired kid) and the rest look like they just found out their girlfriend is really a guy

People look weird doing all kinds of things, so I can't see how this could reflect badly on games.

Apparently that is some kind of medical condition or disorder of the tear duct for some people, cause I had a black friend (coincedence?) who also had water run out of his eye when he concentrated on something for a long time, he said that water would just run out of his eye, and that he wasn't crying.

This happens to me quite often, but when I speak to other folks... my eyes get dry while playing (probably because I don't blink much.)

    What...No Mario?

I agree with what one person mention above. Cutting out non-M titles like Mario and Zelda shows only half the picture. It'll be interesting to see how kids do with classic gaming on the NES and SNES.

lol when I played video games as a kid, I don't think I ever blinked.

I like it when the one kid laughs as he says "knife" what a sick twisted little child.

Pretty interesting stuff. I especially liked the parts with the creepy little girl and the GTA-esque tunes.

Somebody on Kotaku said she was probably driving to a mission in GTA IV. That bores the crap out of me, too.

The second kid has a serious case of "Halo tongue" as my friends and I used to refer to it as. My friend David was the worst about it.

I liked the "stoner" looking kid with long blonde hair. He never moved or even made a face. I laughed everytime they showed him.

As soon as I saw this (and considering some of the "stoner" references, I don't think I'll be way off base by telling this story) I thought of my first time smoking when I played Sonic Adventure, also for my first time. I sat on the floor staring at the TV, jaw dropped to the floor, eyes bugged out of my head just admiring the power of what was happening on the screen and the incredible thought that I was manipulating all of this with my hands. I think if I had to put a reference face to it, it would be Ralphie from A Christmas Story when the mall Santa tells him "you'll shoot your eye out," minus the disappointment.

I chew on my lips and move my tounge around inside my mouth when i concentrate on anything. People always look strange when they are just doing their own thing or dont know they are being watched.

Someone took a pic of me while I was playing a game and I look relaxed like I was just hanging out. I don't concentrate so much I make faces thats just weird.
