    Default Bio Menace clone (?)

It may only share a similar title but I loved Bio Menace enough to investigate further. It's called Biozone -- developed by G5, published by Konami and for sale on Steam. It looks not entirely dissimilar from the current wave of fauxbacks a la Bionic Commando: Rearmed, Dark Void Zero, etc. I'm tempted but I doubt I'll be buying it without more information, of which I have currently found almost none. Anyone have the scoop on Biozone? Have we seen a spiritual successor to the legacy of Snake Logan at long last? Oh and if there's anyone out there who doesn't own Bio Menace, 3D Realms set it free some time back.

    Here's some screen-shots for comparison:

Wow just got done reading the little description for Biozone and the story and everything is basically the same as Bio Menace.

Wow, I'm amazed anyone else even remembers this game.... It was pretty fun, but got overshadowed by most of Apogee's other games (many of which were very similar).

What's next? Dangerous Dave Returns to the Haunted Mansion?

Bio Menace was and still is one of my favorite PC games of its era.

They should release an Apogee collection for the DS/PSP. I may have heard something along these lines before, but it would be a sweet collection. A lot of them were platformers, as previously mentioned, so they would be a perfect fit for the handhelds. Add to the fact that most of them are now more or less freeware, so someone should snap that up pretty quickly. It'd be neat to see the early games again, like Monuments Of Mars.

I guess DSx86 will do in the meantime.

Even DOSBox was kind of choking on Bio Menace and Halloween Harry/Alien Carnage for a while. Apparently they used some really nutty little DOS tricks. Porting them would probably not be a trivial exercise.

On the other hand, an open source Keen 1-3 interpreter has been readily available for a while:

EDIT: And I guess that DSx86 emulator claims to run those other ones flawlessly too.

Before Appogee / 3DR entered the synchronized swimming belly-up contest, this was one of the games released as freeware, along with comments from the original author.

I'm wondering if there is any particular relationship between Jim Norwood and this new game.

No source code for most of these games; and if there were a good DOS emulator then it could be done independently (as many of the classics are freeware by now).

The price is down to five bucks for the next few days, looks like.
