    Default Link's Awakening

So I started playing this last night, or the other night and I'm hooked. I haven't played a Zelda game in a few months since I beat Ocarina of Time. Good to play an old-school Zelda title again. Just finished level 5, lost as heck in level 6 though. Got the L-2 sword early, 4 more heart containers and finished the trading game early too.

Great, great Zelda game. I hope that you're playing the DX version!

Link's Awakening is actually my favorite 2D Zelda. More than the original or LttP or the Oracle games or Minish Cap. I really liked the dungeon design and items in Link's Awakening.

In what order should the games be played?

You may remember I asked the exact same thing in your Super Mario Land 2 thread...

Is this your first time playing Link's Awakening? If so, what took so long?

Any order you want. There's no continuity, except that Majora's Mask follows OoT. Fans keep trying to afix a really convoluted branching timeline that makes no sense, but really, they're just different games, meant to each be enjoyed on their own merits. Playing Link's Awakening won't spoil another game, and playing another game won't spoil Link's Awakening.

Ah man, always glad to hear of another discovering an oddly overlooked game. Link's Awakening was a pretty big deal when it first came out, but the DX rerelease was overshadowed by pokémon's grip on the gaming society.

Good job picking the red tunic, always my choice as well.

What pictures have you managed to get so far?

Actually no it's not. I had played it a couple times before via emulators and the actual title (pre-DX version). Just never finished it at the time, and this was a few years ago.

If/when I play the Oracle games, that will be my first time.

OMFG the Face Shrine is annoying...

Link's Awakening spoiled me. I was playing LttP years *after* getting
"Awakening" and I kept wishing I could feather jump and hold my shield up on my own.

Aside from an extra dungeon and color, what does the DX version offer that the regular version doesn't?

Possibility is infinity! You must be satisfied!

That's about it afair... still not a bad thing really given the original game was so good

Link's Awakening follows LttP, Majora's Mask follows OoT, Phantom Hourglass follows Wind Waker, Adventure of Link follows Legend of Zelda. There's a few pairings in the continuity, but no more than two so far for any iteration of Link...

For one reason or another, I never played any Zelda titles, until Link's Awakening came out. Needless to say, I've been a Zelda fan ever since.

I think Link's Awakening was the second Zelda game I played. Link to the Past was the first.

Both games are great; I remember getting confused in Awakening a lot though.

I was under the impression that Link's Awakening is somewhere in between the Legend of Zelda and the Adventure of Link. It may be that I am crazy though.

There's the new new dungeon, based on color. The reward for beating the color-based puzzles is the choice of a red or blue-colored tunic, which offer a boost in offensive power or resistance to damage, respectively.[20] The DX version also featured a camera shop where pictures are taken of the player's travels; these pictures could be viewed and printed using the Game Boy Printer.

At the end of the day.. it of course doesn't even matter. Sure they tried to shoehorn a story and timeline.. but it's all just useless b.s. :P I just see every Zelda as a pure standalone game.

I finally beat that game after about 7years of attempting it. I still remember my good friend at the time got the walkthrough for it, and this was before I had internet mind you, and she would read out which way to go over the phone..but then she lost her game or her gameboy broke (I don't remember) when we were at the 6th dungeon...yeah it was depressing..I ended up losing the game after that. Then I found it at my old job in one of boxes in the back room..and asked my boss if I could have it..and sure enough I beat the game finally. Yay for stories... ..but I found the DX verision, frankly I didn't even know another one existed.
    Games I currently REALLY want:
    Monster Rancher 1 and 2 for PS1
    Valkyrie Profile for PS1

i had the original version when i was a kid, somewhere over the years i think one of my "friends" might have taken it (bastard). cos usually in my house things turn up again after a while, as all of my childhood games have done, and that one never did.
i have been meaning to buy it again, both versions, but theyre always so expensive here. store owners all know the zelda name

i never finished it either, i played around in it alot though when i was younger.
