Default Impossible Mission for Nintendo DS!!

Hey looks like they are finally going to make a remake of one of the greatest C64 games of all time Impossible Mission!

    http://media.ds.ign.com/media/864/864209/imgs_1.html

I loved this game and this is one I HAVE to buy!!

I hope they keep the gameplay tight and for goodness sake keep the ominous voice in the beginning that say.. "Another visitor... Stay awhile... Stay forever.. HAHAHAHA!"

Let's also hope that a bug like the Atari 7800 version doesnt crop up to prevent us from finishing the darn game!

Hopefully, the programmers will take better care implementing the robot algorithms (the C64 versions of them).
You should be able to win the game without losing an agent.

Eh? I thought they were making this for the Wii. It ceratinly doesn't look like it's going to make good use of the two screens, though it would be nifty if they integrated touch-screen functionality into the puzzles.

Sure looks pretty, anyway. I am somewhat reminded of Elevator Action Returns.

You got my hopes up. DIE!

Well, I'll wait and see. Might buy this one on the cheap someday, but I wouldn't see myself paying full price even if I had a DS unless they made some major gameplay innovation.

Well, they've already got the multiple characters. That may count for something.

(When I first heard that feature would be introduced, I thought they might be trying to make it more like Impossible Mission 2025, which was generally panned.)

(sorry about bumping an older thread)

The USA release is next week Nov. 15th according to IGN and Gamespot. It looks like it was also released on PSP and PS2 in Europe earlier this year. There was another older thread saying that it was also going to be released on the Wii shop channel, did that ever happen?:

Anyone played any of these new versions? How was it?

It was released on DS as well, that's the version I own. A review should appear on NTSC-UK soon...

It's been out here a while in the UK on NDS and PS2, and yes...it is fantastic.

The remake isn't so great, as the colored graphics are so small, it's sometimes hard to see items that are searchable, but the C64 emulated version is spot on, and the Mixed mode takes the best bits of both versions and blends them into handheld bliss.

There's also supposed to be a Wii version coming early next year. May pick that one up too.

I am ashamed to admit I have never played Impossible Mission. However, now that it is seeing the DS I may have to give it a go.

Just saw a stack of copies of Impossible Mission for the Wii at Best Buy for $20. It's a front row game. Surprisingly, I checked and it doesn't look like there is any info about this game being released on the web, at least not in the United States. If it had been $10 like the DS game, I would have jumped on it, but $20 seemed high for some reason.

Time to bump this. I bought the DS version last week at a Gamestop and I like it. Never played Impossible Mission before, and I'm glad they included the C64 original in it, even if it's a rendition of it. In short, I've barely looked at the other modes, as the Commodore version is what interests me.

Been playing through it all, and am almost done (still missing 2 puzzle pieces to complete the codes). However, there is one room that I can't seem to get through: it's the one with platforms on the left that form a staircase. There's only one lift in that room and it's located on the ground platform next to the computer's platform. Thing is, I can't seem to be able to jump in a way to access the lift. No matter what, I either fall into the pit (and lose 10 minutes on the timer) or skip over the lift and make it to the following platform.

Has anyone else encounter this issue? Is there any way to make a short jump? From watching videos of the C64 version on youtube, there seemed to be some sort of automated short jump from platform to platform, or something like that, but I can't find an equivalent on the DS port.

This game was a good little diversion, but I really couldn't get much lasting play value out of it. It's entirely functional and everything, which is good, but it's an old game and they didn't bother to tinker with the formula very much at all. Definitely a budget title. (My copy's for sale if anyone's interested.)

All the modes are pretty much identical, except for the graphics and sound effects. (It's disappointing that they didn't bother with the original C64 ending screens.)

I'm pretty sure I know which part you're referring to. The jump is a little tricky at first, but as I recall you can just barely make the jump to the lift if you stand on the very edge of the second-closest platform when you jump. (You might want to point out the room in a Youtube video just to make sure we're talking about the same thing.)

there seemed to be some sort of automated short jump from platform to platform, or something like that
There is one unpleasant room where you do have to run across some closely-spaced platforms and kind of hope that you don't fall through, but that technique is not applicable here.

    This room, right?

You just run across the platforms to the lift. Seriously. Stand near the edge of a platform, hold right and his stride plattern takes him across to the next platform. Repeat as needed. I'll leave you to figure out how to get around the robots and search the furniture without being constantly fried up the wazoo

(hint: this is one of the hardest rooms in the game, so save a snooze or two!)

That's the one indeed! Thanks Mat!

    It works!

I was afraid I was dealing with another impossible Impossible Mission! :P

I love that game but the manual is a little obscure; they don't explain this part and the whole "how to assemble puzzles" bit could be better explained.
