Default Best place to buy a PS1 boot disc?

I can't seem to find a place that's cheap or legit enough.

I just want it to play imports and maybe the occasional backed up PS1 game, so I'm not sure if I can just use a Gameshark.

i have PS1 modchips and premodded systems if you're interested, much better than a bootdisk.

Do you have any bootdisks? That's really what I am looking for.

How hard to install are the modchips? I assume they are stealth chips?

i don't have bootdisks, only modchips. they are stealth chips and the install difficulty varies by model. its not too hard if you know how to solder. 4 wires for SCPH-1001 (it cant do stealth on SCPH-1001) 7 wires for 5501/7001/7501/9001 and 6 wires for the lil white PSone. if you cant solder very well i can either get you a premodded console or install a chip in your system

If you have a PS1 with the parallel port on the back (check behind the removable door) then you can use a "Gold Finger" type device. They were knock-offs of the AR that let you do an easy disk swap. They are found pretty easily, but if you need one I have spares for $10/each.

All you do it defeat the door switch, then boot an original. When the disk stops, swap the disk and press X and it boots. Imports and backups work fine.

Yeah, it has a parallel port.

I've heard that "Gold Finger" can't play games like Ore No Ryouri or others that have mod chip protection, though.

that works too but you still need to swap. and for multidisc games like MGS that dont let you save before the swap you need to swap trick it again. with a chip you just pop it in and play. also, the chips i carry can defeat anti-modchip protection in games like dino crisis

I'll consider both, but for the time being I'll just use the quick swap method where you hold down the disc door.

Out of curiosity, how much would a mod chip for a 750 cost and also a pre-modded PSOne?

i sell premodded systems for 50 plus shipping and chips for 15 plus shipping. all my premodded systems are stress tested and work great, i do not sell them unless they read legit games and backups well.

Do you have a link to a tutorial for installing the mod chip?

I'm still considering all my options...

Are you going to use a PS2? Just grab an action replay and use it like swap magic. This method has not failed me yet, not even for back-ups!
There are a few copies left on sale at the local Kmart, so I can try to pick one up if you are interested.

    I don't have a toploading PS2.

I'm going to try to use a PS1 Gameshark and use the tape-down door quick swap method.

It works with a fat PS2 as well. All you do is make a slide card.
I would recommend using a GS or AS on the PS1, but I've had problems with games giving me the mod-chip error and the like. The GS can probably bypass this, but I do not know.

I'll go with a Gameshark for now, I guess.

From what I've seen, backups have no problems loading with a Gameshark, even when they are mod protected.

Quick question, does Breaker Pro work with anti-modchip games?

The straight Gameshark will not boot backups unless you flash a hacked BIOS to it, which is difficult since it takes a special interface card- it's not normal serial or parallel. That's why the Gold Finger devices exist- they were AR clones flashed with the hacked BIOS.

I don't think anti-mod games have a problem with the Gold Finger, but the multi-disk games might- you have to do the swap whenever you change disks.

A stealth chip is definately the way to go, but the mod is not easy for someone who has no electronics experience. PS1's go for about $8 at my local Goodwill, so there are plenty of candidates. They are almost worthless.

Huh, I've SEEN it boot backups with a normal Gameshark. :/

I could possibly have a local store around here install a mod chip, I don't know. I'm probably either going with a Breaker Pro or Goldfinger at this point.
