I just replaced the 72-bit connector. When I screwed in the catridge slot, the game only works if I don't depress the cart (aka toaster action).
Any ideas? Do I need to open it back up and tigten the screws?

This happened to me too. Personally, I like it better this way. I just left it. Unless you are planning on selling it, I'd just leave it, imho.
Yeah, I got a NES from a friend of mine who had just replaced the connector. It acts the exact same way. Like The Clonus Horror, I also haven't bothered to replace/fix it.
yea i do plan on selling it through ebay.
You think this would drive the price up? .
any idea on fixes?
I might be totally off, although here is a possibility:
The thing that you insert the game into that moves up and down has a lip on the bottom. That lip needs to be underneath the mother board. Sometimes when people reassemble these things that lip gets placed onto of the mother board instead of underneath it and can cause a number of problems. Open up your system and see if the lip is indeed underneath the mother board.
This is due to the pins being bent up too high. I have had this happen before on a 72 pin connector I repaired. I did not really try to fix it, but usually 3rd party 72-pin connectors are much tighter and could experience this. Other than bending the pins, maybe by leaving a cart in the console with it pressed down for a while (this is what makes these connectors loose in the first place).
I took my NES apart awhile back to replace the connector. I was amazed how many dead bugs and spiders were in that thing.
I'm just sayin'
I work a lot better when I'm not depressed too. Sometimes you just gotta let your NES be itself for awhile. After it's had some time to contemplate a little and reflect back on all the good things it still has going for it.... it'll come around.
Maybe a nice holiday would do it some good?
lol, if i'm depressed, i play nes and we all feel better!
