Default Chrono Cross having best soundtrack ever...?

Now, it's not like I've played every game, but personally I think Chrono Cross (PS1) has the best soundtrack ever. The music just "feels" so deep, and I get goose bumps everytime I here some of the songs on the game. Anyone else feel the same way, or what's your favorite soundtrack for a video game (excluding newer system games).

For me, I'd have to say Final Fantasy III/VI is the best soundtrack I've ever heard. People can claim that Uematsu is overrated, but to me, that music fit the game perfectly in every way.

    Grandia (Saturn / PS1).

I think he's overrated myself - excellent - but not the modern Mozart or anything. However I will say my favorite composition he ever did was the soundtrack for Highway Star (Rad Racer) on the NES.

I second Chrono Cross. Though back when I played FFVII I thought it was the best.

For me, it's Chrono Cross as the best, then Final Fantasy IV as a very close second.

Well, I hope I don't get smacked () but I've never been so wowed by a videogame soundtrack as I was (and still am) by Ridge Racer 4. It was perfect.

I can understand that, R4: Ridge Racer Type 4 had an awesome soundtrack and in my mind was still the peak of the series. (not to say it hasn't been good since however)

To me I was always most impressed with with 3 games soundtracks. The original Chrono Trigger, Rez, and the first Katamari Damacy on the PS2.

I love the Chrono Cross soundtrack, EXCEPT FOR ONE TINY THING. The battle music. And it's a shame that that one song is the weakness of the soundtrack, because it's one you have to hear over and over and over and over again while you play it.

The rest of the soundtrack is definitely phenomenal though.

Chrono Cross, for me, has one truly excellent song: Voyage Another World. I don't think it gets much better than that in CC. Too bad I don't quite like the game right now.

Best soundtrack? Hard to say since sometimes only a couple songs are worth sampling from a 3 disc set. For me a close contender would be F-Zero for SNES. What a kickin' percussion based set, really makes me happy when I sample that. Otherwise I might just say either Armed Police Batrider or Radiant Silvergun would be my favourite soundtracks. As a result, I quite like the work of Manabu Namiki and Hitoshi Sakimoto respectively.

Hip Tanaka I hold in high regard too as most of his work is instantly recognized.

If you enjoy the Chrono Cross soundtrack, then of course you should check out its SNES predecessor, Radical Dreamers, which has many of the same tracks in common - rendered with the SNES sound hardware, of course. It's worth it for the main theme alone.

The SPC set is available from http://www.zophar.net/zsnes/spc/ , of course, but Overclocked Remix also has some very nice renditions (particularly Dale North's).

Oh man, "Dream of the Shore Bordering Another World" (i think it's called) is a fantastic track from Chrono Cross. I don't consider it the best game soundtrack ever, though. I'd have to do some soul-searching to figure that one out.

    In no particular order...

Katamari Damacy, Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy 3, Phantasy Star 2, Columns,

edit - FF X, if for nothing else than the title theme.

Tempest 2000 had a great soundtrack, fantastic for getting the blood pumping. Demolition Racer: No Exit on the Dreamcast had fantastic music too, so good that I tracked down some of the tracks on iTunes. And I've always loved the music in the Jag game Battlemorph. Very atmospheric.

I have to personally go with Suikoden 1 and 2 for my favorite game soundtracks of all time.
