Watch out for the packs of acid shooting dogs. You can have all of your resistances up to max and those things still kick your ass, everytime.
Don't choose a Wizard? The class early on is awesome, later on is just terrible in comparison to a Warrior.
Me and a friend started at the same, me being higher level we wanted to see how powerful he's become with his equipment he got once near the end of hard mode, he could kill me in a single hit and the flames I could cast that could be laid across the ground he could walk through those all day long.
We didn't play much after that, just finished hard. But the way that I stood back throwing down spells and him basically being the tank, the game was way too easy even on hard. How overpowered the Warrior is I'm pretty sure he could have taken hard on his own.
Using the Rogue, and this is gonna sound noobish but is the enterance to all the quest dungeons in the old church...?

Mage, is an excellent class. The easiest way to kick ass is to put every single one of your points into Mana, and always have a mana shield up. You have no idea how overpowered a high level mage is who has a mana shield 10 times the amount of your health, and fireballs that will annihilate you in one hit.
Watch out for the Butcher. That dude pretty much always surprised me with how hard he was at that point in the game (2nd or 3rd lvl, I think). Not to mention I'd usually jump out of my chair when he first says "Ahhh, fresh meat" (IIRC). I think the voice volume on him was louder than anything else in the game!
Any suggestions on spreading attib points as the Rogue?

I also have nothing to suggest (it's been ages since I've played Diablo 1) but I just want to say "Have fun!" I loved Diablo back in the day. I should probably play through both Diablo and Diablo 2 before Diablo 3 comes out (you know... in 87 years )
Rogues are my favorite class. Lots of dexterity and agility if I remember correctly. It's been ages though. Save often and also anytime you hear voices (usually means you're fighting a mini boss). Also, look for glowing monsters. They're unique and drop good loot. Other than that, have fun with it. I lost a whole summer to it back in 98.
The Lurker Lounge is an excellent site for Diablo 1, I learned a lot about the game by reading what's there. It's been years since I played but watch out for certain shrines and enemies, if I remember right, some can lower your stats and HP/Mana permanently.
Every 5 lvls an entrance/exit "shortcut" opens up somewhere else in Tristram, so you dont have to keep using the church.
& I dont thnk I ever bought anything from Wirt the boy, just a PITA getting to him anyway.
Throw your gold on the ground in town so you dont have to carry it.
As said above, it's an awesome game. I always enjoy it & prob. will never sell mine.
"The big things that...nerds like to argue about might not actually matter that much."
I already have a pile of items in front of the church opening (Staff of Healing, a spell book I can't use yet, Red Staff of Firebolt, that helm you get after the tavern Sign quest, and an an Overlord's Helm.).
Opened up level 5 catacombs, go me. I still kinda feel like i'm doing something wrong-ish with allocating my pts each level up though. And i have a Bow of Skill, go me.

Plenty of index finger clicking exercises, and lots of cold refreshments. Did you know that they have released several versions of the Return to Hellfire mod which lets you (kinda) play Diablo 1 as a Diablo 2 mod
Perpare yourself for lots of mouse click. Also get yourself a wrist support.

Watch out for the Black Death zombies. If they hit you it lowers one of your stats permanently.
Also, one thing I ended up doing was playing local multiplayer by myself. That way you get new monsters every time you resume, similar to Diablo 2. You can even grind bosses for loot. I don't know if I just sucked at point allocation or what, but playing single player never worked out for me, I always got stuck. Being able to grind on the respawning monsters helped me a lot (though I still never beat it).
Yeah, Black Death zombies, that's what they were called. I finished the game years ago, and even got to lvl 49 - it was the highest level you could reach at the time because of a glitch you couldn't get to 50 AFAIK, unless Blizzard fixed it. Hahaha.
Diablo...what a great game, and one my favorite all time computer games. I have spent more hours on diablo than any other computer game. I like to play as a "tank", so the warrior class is for me.
I know that you can "restart" the game but your character retains his/her level....This will help boost your character to better be able to slay harder enemies with ease. It also means that you have to repeat alot of familiar quests(though there is a chance that you will get new ones)
As a warrior, keep all spellbooks you cant read, and store them. If you find items that boost your magic, then store those as well in town. Equip all the items, read the book, and pump your magic abilities. It really helps to have a decent level heal or a weapon that steals life or magic.
The wizard character is weak, avoid. The rouge character is great.
There also is a unlockable character "Bard". He can wield two weapons and is brutal. He pretty much is just a warrior that can wield two weapons in each hand.
The expansion Hellfire, is just OK, but can add some replay value to the game.
This post makes me want to start another character again

Which level do I start finding Black Death Zombies? Just finished level 5, got the Space Rock and a Town Portal spell. Be nice if i can find another Healing spell instead of Firebolts all the time...
