Just bought the game, and finished the second stage.. Jesus Christ, this game is tight!! And the gfx are about as realistic as I've yet to see on the 360.

But in all honesty, this feels more like a Tom Clancy game, than a Call of Duty game.

What platform are you guys playing COD4 on? I'm still undecided about which version to get, PS3 or 360?

I'm playing the 360 version and it runs silky smooth. From what I've seen, the 360 and PS3 versions look and run pretty much the same so it comes down to preference. I prefer LIVE so I can easily get into matches and invite friends.

Loved the "Death from Above" level!

They both look VERY close to me, so for me it was 360. I like the 360 controller a lot more than the sixaxis, plus there's a little thing called achievements in the 360 version. I love achievements. :)

I'm playing it on the 360, and I'll be damned if this game doesn't blow away practically every 360 game away (graphically), to date.

Yes, even BioShock.

The animations are very fluid, and the framerate looks like it's chugging out a constant 60fps. I have gotten into some pretty intense firefights (I decided to play the game on 'veteran' from the get-go), and not one hint of slowdown. And this game is definitely another reason why every gamer should have an HDTV.

The opening credits (where you're taken for a ride in the car) looks like a damn tech demo, all by itself...

+1 there. I knew BioShock would be topped graphically, but not this soon! I can't wait to buy a newer and larger HDTV and try this game out, although it looks pretty good on my older Samsung LCD (1 year old. Yeah I think it's old. PQ on TVs has improved a lot in the last year) anyways. I'd love to see this game on a bigger TV with a higher contrast ratio than mine. Throw in a more expensive home theatre system while I'm at it, heh. :)

I'm playing it on the PS3 and a few times there was problems. 2-3 times the game lagged horribly and then yesterday you couldn't get online for almost the whole day (I checked to see if my friends were able to get online and they couldn't either so I know it wasn't a bad connection on my end)

The game though is very addicting especially how their rank system works, probably my most favorite ranking system ever.

Okay - I'm a little confused about something....

Why is Pripyat, Ukraine mentioned in the intro FMV? Is there a portion of the game that's supposed to take place there? What's that all about?

I will admit - It was a nice touch, using the pictures of the abandoned ferris wheel and "azure" pool.

Damn that was a short, but VERY sweet campaign. The end part of "Game Over" was mega awesome in my opinion! Can't wait to dive right back in on Veteran tomorrow. :)

Also, Mile High Club = the hardest achievement to get in the game. 1 minute to beat that "level" sucks. 1:15 and I'm sure I could do it a lot easier... this is gonna take a lot of practice/retries. :(

Same can be said when it comes to the boat trial run before the first mission. I think my personal best time is down to 20.3 and last I checked was tops on my friends list. I'm going to have a hard time pushing 19.x. I have no clue how in the hell someone at Infinity Ward got a 15.1

Nah, that was cake compared to Mile High. The leaderboards are somewhere around 11.5 seconds for #1... How I don't know. 20 is doable, but 11.5? sheesh.

That pool is featured in the campaign (sniper level) and in the multiplayer map, "Bloc". Both take place in Pripyat, outside of Chernobyl.

The Captain in the sniper level warns you to stay out of the radiation affected areas several times. It takes place 15 years before the CoD4 storyline. When Capt. Price was a Lt.

The multiplayer map "Bloc" has that pool too. I was wandering around this weekend and took a back alleyway and ended up inside the building with the pool. It looks pretty cool, especially for an "away-from-the-action" area of the map.

The deserted Pripyat buildings are some of the most interesting areas in the game IMO.

Edit: All the buildings pictured in the Wiki article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pripyat%2C_Ukraine) are in CoD4. Pretty cool.

Achievement Unlocked
20G - Mile High Club

YES! After about 40 retries I did it! Now all that is left for achievements is beating the rest of the game on Veteran. Damn that felt good to finaly beat that. :D

Let me just say, that flashbangs are your best friend for this level. Impossible without them. :P

All I can say is WOW! What an awesome game, just started Act III on Veteran. Been playing it for 2 nights now. After getting frustrated on that Heat mission and giving single player a little break...

Loaded up multiplayer, omg easily the best multiplayer shooter I have ever played! Halo 3can't touch this.

Also who talked about it earlier, I almost got this from Circuit City for $29.99 (with cod 3 gold). My sister showed up at 1:30 (they were supposed to start selling at 2), flirted with the guy who rang it up. Only thing that stopped him was management came buy and noticed the problem.

Not sure if I'll ever get my 40k points in COD3 now... I don't want to do anything but put little red dots on all my guns!

Just finished up on Veteran. There was some really hard areas in this game on Veteran, but COD2 was still much harder. This is the better game, though. :)

I'm interested to hear how people rank the hardest veteran playthroughs (CoD2, CoD3, and CoD4).

I've always thought CoD3 on veteran was the hardest because of the cheap "broken" superpowered enemy AI. CoD2 was infuriating in a few areas, but do-able. CoD4...haven't tried it yet.

I'm working on Call of Duty 2 Veteran, it is extremely difficult but it isn't near as bad as Call of Duty 3 IMO.

Call of Duty 3 had the moments where you needed to do really elaborate tasks like setting up bombs with no checkpoints. And as you said it was broken, the AI cheats and I believe you can actually get shot through walls.

Call of Duty 4 is much shorter than the other 2 so it may be easier in that regard, but other than that it seems similar to Call of Duty 2's level of difficulty.

COD3 is hard because of the stupid glitches IE getting shot through cover, or hitting an invisible wall in front of an enemy instead of getting the headshot that it looks like you are about to get... I think I finished 3 up to level 4 or 6 and switched to regular just to finish the game...

COD4 on Veteran kind of reminds me of my playthrough of 2 on Hardened, in terms of overall difficulty. Personally I'd say COD3 (due to bugs) > COD2 > COD4 for difficulty. I got stuck a lot on COD2, but only a few areas on 4 gave me trouble. That and I finished COD4 on Vet in about 8 hours play total, COD2 took me a lot longer.

Are the flashback sniper missions particularly hard on Veteran?

Are the flashback sniper missions particularly hard on Veteran?

Yes. (spoiler ahead)

Especially when you make your escape, right after you're compromised. Advice: run like holy hell to the adjescent building on the right, and ignore eveyone not in range of any of whatever guns you may be holding. You are definietly outnumbered at this point. Putting up a fight will only get you killed in record time.

And when you're waiting for your extraction, by the ferris wheel.... I thought I was never gonna make it past that part. Those C4 charges were a godsend.

Only the Ferris Wheel part, because of such a long time to play with no checkpoint, just to die and redo it several times. Hardest part of the game, not including the mission after the credits (Mile High Club). I really only got stuck here, and the part in the second last level, where you have to clear the area before the slow-opening doors part of the level. The rest of the game I pretty much blew through quickly, but these two areas... damn.

Can anyone help me out with Veteran mode "No Fighting In The War Room"?

I keep getting my ass handed to me, on the first corridor, after you reach the stairs.

Can anyone help me out with Veteran mode "No Fighting In The War Room"?

I keep getting my ass handed to me, on the first corridor, after you reach the stairs.

What I did was crouch at the left side of the main corridor opening, wait for the first two guys to run out, and then shoot them. After that, I moved up to just before the first intersection, hiding in the small alcove on the right side. The tough part here is that there are guys in both the left and right hallways ready to shoot you. I tossed grenades down the left corridor, then sprinted into the right corridor (you may also want to throw a stun grenade down the right hall before you do that). When you run into the right hallway, you need to run into cover to avoid being shot from either behind (by the guys in the left hallway) or by the guard in the right hallway. There are boxes stacked on the sides the hallway that will let you sort of zig-zag down the hall. Peek out and shoot the guard in the hallway, then zig-zag your way to the corner. There will be some more guys there, so you may want to toss some grenades. I then just continued down the rightmost side until it loops back around to the main corridor. Be sure to make liberal use of grenades and to hide behind the various boxes whenever you can.

and then there is Galaxy mario. i am so enthused about SMG release. the game looks pretty good too. can you imagine what it would look like in 720p with hi res textures?
