Was the NES the first console to have composite AV out? Or were there consoles before (2600, Intellivision, Coleco, etc) that had that feature?

Are you counting classic computers as well, such as the Atari 800, TI-99-4/A, and Commodore 64, which all had an option for A/V (is the C64 actually a form of S-Video)? They all had RF as well, of course.

I know that the Sega Master System could be hooked up with an A/V cable, but I'm not sure about it's earlier incarnation, the Sega SG-1000 (which came out before the Famicom).

C-64 had RGB!! ;) (And games looked nice on those old Commodore monitors. Commodore should've at least stayed in the monitor market after their downfall. They made some quality monitors, for their time. I know alot of people that still use theirs!)

But the NES was the first non-programmable console, I remember, with composite ports.

I'll second that. I consider them to be the Cadillac's of composite monitors. I have two model 1702's that I regularly use. One connected to a "breadbox" C64 and the other to a Vic-20. I wish I had another 10 of them. Both to hook up to other 8-bit systems I have and for future backup. The only other one I have at present that delivers comparable quality is a Panasonic Composite/RGB that I've got complimenting my TI99/4A system since my poor original TI monitor has serious problems. :(

As for the question above about the Sega 1000 it was RF only I'm pretty certain. Both the first and second version. I've got a Sega 3000 which has A/V capabilities but of coarse that's a computer not a console.

Actually it wasn't until the Amiga that Commodore computers had RGB. The C128 had RGBI, which is also nice, but totally different form RGB really. The best the C64 could do was s-video (actually chroma-luma, and in fact it uses composite for the chroma rather than a pure color signal).

The Commodore RGB monitors sure ar enice, though. I've been alternating between a 1084S (and a 1084S clone I have from Magnovox) and a VGA monitor with upscan as my primary monitor for years now. I'm currently using VGA, though just because I wanted a bigger screen. I almost bought a really nice 25" Panasonic RGB monitor at my college's surplus sale last month, but it got sold before I made it to the sale even though I had set it aside (and actually saved it form being rained on) a couple days ahead. They only wanted $10 for the damn thing, too. I will cry forever.

I have a commodore monitor that I got from a goodwill a few years ago, everything is fine with it besides a corder of the screen has a color distortion prpblem where it has a purple tint to the screen, I want another monitor but buying them on ebay = massive shipping costs :(
