A few things I've been wanting over my week off work:

Star Wars Episode II, X360, Complete, $5.99 at goodwill
Hitman: Bloodmoney, X360, Complete, $10 at local pawn
X360 Racing Wheel (Gift from wife for birthday)
Forza 2 (Gift from wife)
Pre Order Halo 3 Limited (Gift from wife)

I also picked up 2 NES Advantages and 1 NES Max for $10 at pawn shop.

Really a dry market around here right now.

Probably overpaid, but it was still only $6 for everything:

Bought a 20Gig PS3 system for 325 dollars with a single controller and the standard hookups.

Good deal! You can just exchange out the HDD if you want more space. I think buying the 20GB versions cheap right now is the way to go.

Grrrr! MegaMan 4 has eluded me thus far. Just one of those games, not super rare, but I just haven't come across it. I'm sure once I do I'll soon get a bunch in a row. It is also the only NES MegaMan I don't have yet.

Good finds, btw!

went to some garage sales this weekend, one place had a mini PS1 with 5 crappy games for $22, alittle too much for me to spend on a system I will most likelu never use (I have original ps1, ps2, ps3)

However I got lucky and got to a garage sale and noticed a kid holding like 6 ps2/xbox games in his hand, I almost died thinking he was holding a ton of gems but luckily he only ended up getting 2 games (one of them rygar on ps2). I managed to nab ratchet and clank going commando, gungrave, jak 2, savage skies, riddick escape from butcher bay, all non GH for $25 total. Not a bad deal since I had just planed on getting ratchet from gamestop for $15 alone.

Ebay wise I scored a dark cloud (ps2) counter standee for $18 total, I figured I would never see one of them again so I was willing to pay up to $30 for it.

Had one of my best rummaging weekends in a while (which isn't too hard, as I don't go nearly as often as I used to. All of this came from 3 rummages that either advertised "games" or "video games." It pays to read the classifieds and get up early:

http://img241.imageshack.us/img241/507/pachinkobz0.jpg

The pachinko machine was $25, works great, and has an LCD slot machine screen in the center. Same rummage had a Gamecube with 2 controllers and 2 games $20 (but my best score there was a like-new, 2-stage $700 snow blower for $100!)

Boxed Master System, 3d glasses, 4 games, all for $20. Boxed Tron tabletop, green gameboy, Pokemon Stadium 2...$3 each.

8 PS1 games $1-$2 each, 13 gameboy games 50 cents each, Commodore Might and Magic, complete...$1.

Felt like the good old days!

Had one of my best finds ever this past weekend. So we were having a new fridge delivered on Sunday, and my wife and I went out to pick up some foam coolers, to store food, etc. On the way back, we decide to stop at a random yard sale. This was around noon on a sunny day, and there were already close to a dozen people at the sale, browsing around. Needless to say, I wasn't expecting to find anything. As we're walking up to the house I spot a large black plastic case laying in plain view in the middle of the driveway with "TurboGrafx 16" printed on the front. We open it up, and inside is a TG16 + CD-Rom expansion (both in beautiful condition), along with a controller and loose copy of Air Zonk. Total price: $5.00 :)

I got a new copy of Deep Raider (really crappy Tomb Raider ripoff) for $1. It sucks, HARD, but it included a new PC gamepad which kinda resembles a Saturn pad so I got it just for that.

Today I got Caesar III (Mac) almost complete for $3, and at another booth I got Diablo II (CDs + case + key), a bunch of random CDs and a sealed Oprah 20th Anniversary DVD set for $3! The Diablo II is going to eBay, and a few of the CDs and the DVD set are going to FYE for credit.

Garage saleing for me lately has pretty much been a bust. Last weekend was no exception. My favorite thrift store, however, pulled through for me again:

N64 24 cartridge drawer(which I needed): $1
3 issues GMR magazine (#4, 7 and can't recall the last): 10 cents each

Non game related I picked up a double-cd set of New Order's "1987" for $2.

Sunday my game room TV died so we upgraded our living room TV and moved the old to the game room. My wife and I spent hours looking at LCD units and we weren't really happy. We stopped of at the local Rex so I could look at their tube TVs (as most everywhere else had junk). I found one that both of us liked: a Samsung tube HDTV with 2 HDMI ports, 2 component connections, S-Video and HD and standard tuner. The only many might see as a negative (and might ask if I was nuts) is that it's a 4:3 screen. I honestly don't give a hoot about a physical wide screen TV and neither does my wife. Plus the price was right: $379 new. It fit in the cabinet perfectly and looks fantastic.

So it was a pretty decent weekend after all.

Good day at the flea market, that's three weeks in a row! To begin with I found a Robo The Fan, an R.O.B. looking oscillating fan. Zemmix has one in his room of doom (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=103116) pictures and it seemed to peak a lot of interest. I just happened to come across one on my way out, seller wanted $7 but I got him down to $6 (wouldn't take $5). It was pretty dirty which is why I was trying to haggle but oh well. He kept offering to show me that it worked but I know he's out there all the time and didn't need to see. One of the lightbulbs in the head was out when I got home - wish I would have let him plug it in after that - would have been able to get it for $5. ;)

After disassembly of most of it, some cleaning, and replacing both lightbulbs it looks and works great...

http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/DP-Finds-2007-07-17(01).jpg

The sucker really does resemble R.O.B.. Part of the head is a tiny bit warped from what I would assume is heat from one of the lightbulbs. I replaced them with 5 watt ones instead of the 7 watt bulbs that were in there when I bought it.

Next I finally found a copy of Donkey Kong for the Game Boy. Been looking for this title for awhile as it plays a lot like the Game & Watch Donkey Kongs and is a predecessor to Mario Vs. Donkey Kong. Lots of great platforming puzzles.

Last stop of the day was at a vendor I hadn't seen out there in awhile. He had a bunch of video games and a few crates of NES and VCS cartridges. All were pretty dirty but I thought I'd take a look so I went around the table and began looking over his inventory. I found a copy of Sqoon and a prototype cartridge. When asked how much he said I could have the proto, suppose figuring it was junk. I looked over the rest of his NES games, and stupidly didn't look over the VCS stuff... it was just way too dirty so I didn't give the games more than a passing glance. Hopefully he'll be out there next week and I can spend more time checking things out. The proto ended up being Caesar's Palace but I haven't had time to see if anything is different from the released version.

GB - Donkey Kong $5.00
NES - Caesar's Palace (Prototype) Free
NES - Sqoon $3.00

http://www.classicplastic.net/digitalpress/DP-Finds-2007-07-17(02).jpg

Nothing like finding a proto and then it ending up being a low profile game. LOL Oh well, we'll see and I can't complain considering it was free.

playstation PAL fluid promo only disc-$7 at an hole in the wall thrift store i'd never noticed before 5 minutes away from my place. they also had a copy of jonah lomu rugby, which i passed on. although i've been lucky finding import stuff in the wild through the years living in L.A., it was still worth $7 to me for the novelty of finding something like it so close to home. not to mention the new-found knowledge of how to write "promo only-not for resale" in many different foreign languages.

oh, and the $5 TG-CD and free proto finds are out of control.

Just picked up what looks to be an opened but complete and like-new Red Octane Xbox 360 Guitar Hero II/controller package for 34.99 from Goodwill. I'm guessing it's from Target. I don't have a 360, so I can't even hook it up, but I felt like I couldn't pass it by. Did a double take when I saw that huge box in the display case. If nothing else, I can return it for store credit within 10 days.

Some people might not consider this a good deal, but I do. I traded a CIB copy of Pirates! Gold for the Genesis for a CIB copy of Psychic Detective for the PS1. If you look at just the "values", it may not that good of a deal, but when I consider that I only paid $5 for the Pirates! game, the deal gets better, especially when you factor in the rarity of the PS1 game.

No thrift store finds at all, I passed on everything I've seen for close to ten days. A real slow month, I guess. So I have been doing a little swapping.

For 5 months, I had my name on a waiting list for a 2600 system at my local, indie game store. The owner called me the other day to say he had an untested unit come in with no hookups that he'd let go for little or nothing. He also told me that he had a 3DO FZ-10 come in that he needed to test but had no 3DO games to test it with. I'll get back to that other point later.

When I went in the next day, it turns out there were 3 games and 3 controllers with the loose 2600 system. So I acquired that for 5 used dvd's from my collection. About the 3DO, I traded the shop owner a common 3DO game for a loose N64 and a loose PS1 system, both of which need repair. He had way too many of both laying around to ever get around to fixing them himself. Don't know if I will bother holding onto them very long.

Aside from that, I traded four old western paperback books to an old woman near my work for a loose copy of Pokemon Silver for Gameboy Color. The battery is dead, just as I expected, but it will serve as a good guinea pig for my first cartridge battery-changing operation.

Today i got some go stuff at garage sales and church sales. At a garage sale i got a nintendo 64 with 43 games and 3 controllers all complete in the boxes for $125. All the mario games are there and all the classics. I also got a gameboy advance with about 20 games for $20 at a flea market. I got a nes with a couple games for $3 at a church sale. And i also got 30 ps1 games that are all non sports, mostly disney games for $20. And ddrmax and 2 dance pads for $5. Some other stuff too, i did pretty good.

Yep, that's why I was a bit hesitant when a friend told me about the store closing. I think I blew about $120.

Flea Market:

My Goal today was to take one of my pocketbikes, pop it on at a friend vendors table and give out my TSMMR-upcoming race event Flyers.

I just didn't feel up to it so I didn't bring the bike.......I had a feeling I might run into something at the flea market that would surprise me.
Something that I had not seen there....I was right on that.

When I walked into the market the first thing I saw was an Arcade Machine/still on the back of a vendors truck to be unloaded...I Never see arcade machines at a flea market..
It was a small orange sides-front arcade machine..Asking the vendor what it was and how much!..He said it's Galaga and $200.00 with working coin mechs etc.
I'm not sure what the control panel was,it looked like a Ms. Pac Man overlay..
Was it worth $200.00 to be,no because I have machines and can't buy anymore..To someone else who was looking for an Arcade machine.. Yes..
It was not a original Galaga cab or I would of grabbed it,the cab itself was from something else(a conversion)
http://www.klov.com/G/Galaga.html
I considered buying it and putting it in storage but that does me no good..

My Dad bought a Lathe so that took up the room in his vehicle.

A friend vendor of mine had a Japanese N64.....
I don't know anything about them nor ever owned one so I passed on it...It had no games with it either..
Passed up a nice shell SNES system but it's inputs on the back side were destroyed.

Picked up :
Two for $5.00 DVDs
Collateral Damage DVD,(gave to dad)
Freddy VS Jason
Intolerable Cruelty.

SNES Star Fox $3.00

Japanese PS2 Games..Eight Games For $30.00
Training Wheels $1.00(to put on trainer pocketbike)

Nice "find." That Ultima would sell for quite a premium on Ebay, if you ever choose to part with it. If you have the cloth map, it would fetch even more. I have mine framed and hanging on my game room wall (next to the map for Ultima IV). :)

Yep, I have two of the cloth maps from Ultima 3...Story is, me and my best pal from those days usually each bought copies of RPG's we liked and played them together to help each other figure out the tougher areas of the game. Somehow I ended up with his maps. His has a cigarette burn in it though, ouch. I have two copies of the Ultima 4 map too hehe...

Anyway, here are some other games I retrieved from my old playing days. Cinemaware always did such a fine job with their box art I thought:

Just got back from an auction in my town that advertised games being available. There were only two items I saw one was a box with an atari and a bunch of games, another a box of random crap that just happened to have a copy of bad dudes for nes sitting in it. I set my bid limit for the atari at $35 and waited.

Ended up winning the atari items for $25 and I offered the guy that won the box of random crap $2 for the copy of bad dudes. Went through the box of atari items and there ended up being an atari 2600 jr., all the original cords, three joysticks (two standard and a gemstick), a set of paddles (one of them was broken so I tossed them) and 47 games. The most notable games that I needed out of the bunch were ghostbusters, burgertime, crystal castles, millipede, and quite a few commons I hadn't found in the wild yet. I may take a picture later and add it here.

Different ones, depends on where I'm traveling for the day..If I'm racing,or practicing it'll be the one near the track..If I'm doing stuff local it'll be local..

There was a flea market today local but I didn't go-I need to catch up on things, selling listing stuff on ebay..

I want to start hitting Thrift stores..

.................................................. ...................
Just my feelings on Flea markets...

To be honest: Though I love the hunt, the hunt is drying up...I find way too much junk...
I totally pass up junk,I pass broken systems now unless the price is give it away cheap and sometimes I don't even do that..I won't touch a 5200 system..I can't do anything with them.:frustrated:
The time, money I spend traveling around to some of these flea markets isn't worth it...though I still love the hunt it's just dying for me...Right now I go for my own hunt and my Dads who's having blast finding non video gaming items,I've found out that it's easy to give my racing flyers out at these events so I do that in the hunt-kills two birds with one stone.
I'll walk through 100-500 vendors and only come home with what I got-get...
I don't pass much up because it's just not out there..If it is it's junk and or overpriced..

For instance:
Saturday Flea market..Vendor had:SNES system, used one controller with hook-ups..$45.00 FIRM...with the word FIRM written Huge next to the price.
Why would I want to pay $45.00 for a used SNES at a flea market..That's a rip..I can only see this as a deal to someone desperate or of No knowledge of the computer-ebay.
I can only get $25.00 for them, cleaned up,fully working and with Super Mario World.
Do I want to buy and sell SNES systems anymore..Hell No!!

The problem I'm having is...
Overpricing due to the other buyers...I know a lot of the vendors I deal with personnaly..I've known some of them for over 10 years. They tell me the truth on things, where they get stuff, things they sell and to whom they sell to,plus offers they get for stuff...
High offers due to other buyers who don't haggle...They are honest with me and they laugh at the people who overpay for stuff..
Just Saturday a vendor was telling me how he sold a video game item for way overprided because the buyer just had to have it.(he overheard the buyer say he could get more then he paid for it on ebay yet the seller already checked on the prices and his asking price was higher)...The buyer didn't even haggle him and the vendor said he would of went way down in price if he had..... (said that to me with laughter after he told me that...

Curious.
Would people Pay $160.00 for a out of box Famicom system, with no games at a flea market?..untested as is.

Would people pay $125.00 for a used-dirty Xbox at a Flea Market?untested as is..

I didn't get any of the following cause I'm broke until the 1st of August, but I went to some pawn shops out in the boonies with one of my friends.

We saw:
2 SNES Minis, $10 each. He got one of them
1 Genesis 3, $4 he also bought that.

At another shop we saw:

2 mint loose copies of Manic Mansion, $3 each
Game.com for $7
Mint in the box SNES system with Mario All Stars+world. $45

When the 1st of the month rolls around, I'm going back to all those stores. Luckly no one in that area knows anything about games, and none of my other collector friends know where they are.

A Pretty Good Weekend!
Saturday and Sunday finds 7/21-7/22:

http://home.hot.rr.com/jmdavis/finds1.jpg (http://home.hot.rr.com/jmdavis/)
The Nes games were $.25 each, the Genesis was $2.00 (It came with the controllers and hookups, not pictured), the Casio Portable TV was $10, the transformer was $.25, the Casio SA-8 keyboard was $1. There's a funny story about this Nes System. It was free. When I got to the sale that had this system, there was this big sign that said "VIDEO GAMES 25 CENTS EACH". I got 2 stacks of Nes games (my dad got a stack of nes game, a few N64 games, an N64($2), and a Genesis game). I bought my games and then asked the lady running the sale if they had the system. She said they threw it out because "It was blinking" and they thought it was broken. The lady told me she threw it out near the top of the can and she was kind enough to reach into her trash cans to get it. It came with the controllers and it had Donkey Kong 3 inside.

http://home.hot.rr.com/jmdavis/finds2.jpg (http://home.hot.rr.com/jmdavis/)
This stuff(except for the PS1 game case) was purchased on Sunday at an estate sale. Each computer item was $1, except for the crushed Summer Games II, which was $.50. The Top Gun is new and sealed. I also got(at the estate sale) a Mattel Computer Gin for $4 and shiny metal/plastic mousepad(looks like graph paper with tiny metallic white squares and blue lines-definitely 1980's) for $.50. How much do you suppose the Top Gun is worth?

And the best for last:
http://home.hot.rr.com/jmdavis/finds3.jpg (http://home.hot.rr.com/jmdavis/)(
(Doh I accidentally put the PS1 case in both pictures!)
Pokemon Silver Pikachu and Pichu edition Gameboy Color with a worm light, case(s), 18(all GBC) games, all the manuals and a big pile o' Gameboy cords for $30. My dad got a GBA with 7 games for $20 at the same sale(nothing special). The GBC games are mostly cartoon and movie games but notable games in this lot are: Spiderman, Batman Beyond, Racin' Ratz(never seen this one), Donkey Kong Country, and X-Men Mutant Academy. Also pictured is a Trivial Pursuit 1980's edition that I got for $1.

I also got a Dilbert Book(1 of 3 cool things purchased on Friday) for $.50, The Human League "Romatic?" album(any good?)for $1, Paperboy and Desert Strike for Genesis(on friday too, a day before I got the Genesis!) complete for $1 each, and Far Cry:Instincts for $4(not pictured, cause I'm playing it!).

shiny metal/plastic mousepad(looks like graph paper with tiny metallic white squares and blue lines-definitely 1980's) for $.50.
This sounds like the mouse pad for an early optical mouse. I worked in a lab that used these with the SGI UNIX boxes. The mouse had to be on one of these pads to work at all. Don't know when they started making them, but that lab was still using them in 2000 when I gradumatated.

Congrats on your finds, looks like you got some good deals!

Managed to pick up a couple of lots off CL recently. Much of it is for re-sale to pay for themselves, but I still needed enough of the games to make it worth my while.

Picked up the 19 NES games for $25 off CL, and Spot for $1.75 at a garage sale. That sale was interesting 'cause the guy would just always buy his son's friend's games whenever they wanted to upgrade. Only problem is he used to do flea markets and was using one of those price guides a store (funcoland?) used to put out. Outdated, though, cause $25 for MGS just won't fly anymore (although it looks like they've gone up recently since I only got ~$5 for mine a few months ago), And 8.50 for Donkey Kong Jr. Math was just too much for me. Almost bit on the sealed 7800 Galaga for 4.50, but I would have just be re-selling it.
http://home.comcast.net/~evanwink/images/games/finds21.jpg

More NES goodness... well, okayness. Paid 90 for the 38 games and zapper. The boxed games are in very nice shape.
http://home.comcast.net/~evanwink/images/games/finds23.jpg
http://home.comcast.net/~evanwink/images/games/finds24.jpg

SNES games from the same guy as the previous lot... 20 for all of it.
http://home.comcast.net/~evanwink/images/games/finds22.jpg

ps/edit: I don't collect boxed NES games, so if anyone wants those two let me know/make an offer. I'd trade them for loose ones (w/ manual preferred) in decent condition for the cost of shipping and maybe another common NES game I don't have.

This one was actually a surprise find for me. I was at my local Goodwill today and saw that they had some Commodore 64 games for sale. I picked out one that looked kind of neat. It has the beat up box and instructions. It was called Sammy Lightfoot. Turns out that it is an R7! Not bad for $2.
