Finally got around to putting some solid time into Ikaruga (DC) and loved it to pieces. I was particularly amused when the same robot voice that says "normal mode" in the beginning starts goin' fuckin' nuts when the level one boss is inbound. What the hell is it saying?

Cool :-D
Does anybody know if Ikaruga is going to be released on the GameCube in the UK or USA? It's supposed to be a more enhanced version compared to the DC so i'm holding out for it.

pOP the Ikaruga disc into your PC. there will be a notepad file in there that tells you what the robot says. some nifty wallpaper too.

Thanks, Tetsu! I hadn't (and probably wouldn't ever have) thought of doing that.
Devin, Gamefaqs.com is showing an April 16 release date for North America and a May 9 release date for Europe. There's supposed to be an extra play mode, but from what I read it's mostly a straight port. But if you've waited this long, another month won't kill ya. Besides, you'll probably get your domestic version cheaper and easier than what it would cost you to get the JP version up and running, what with boot discs and possible PAL/NTSC headaches and all. Unless you don't already have a Gamecube...

Yep. Iky is coming to the US. I'll probably buy it even tho I already own the DC version and don't own a GC (and have no desire to.)
Here's an interview with the US "producer" to tempt your tummy:

Ikaruga is slated to hit the street (North America) on April 14. Not sure which stores will have it on that date, but I do know that it's a frigging instense shooter, escpecially in vertical mode. I wonder if people with 32" TV's will try and turn them sideways so they can play vertical.
There's an Ikaruga website to track world-wide high scores:

I've been enjoying it quite a bit, but I was wondering if there was any kind of save or restore feature that I haven't noticed (perhaps in Japanese or something)? I've gotten a little tired of starting such short games from the first level every time, just to die at the end of the third or begining of the fourth, hehe. (I have the Japanese version and no instructions, sigh)

Nope, you're playing a man's shmup now! None of this starting from the last level you cleared stuff here!!!
(Here's a hint though, if you log enough hours, "Free Play" opens up and you can continue as much as you'd like. I think that unlocks at 7 hours? It's been a while.)
