View Full Version : Who owns a single game or system worth $1000 or more?

I don't think I own one unless you count prototypes. But I thought this would be an interesting topic. It is easy for anyone to own games worth $100 or more but the thousand dollar mark is much more of an accomplishment.
So what $1000+ games do you own? Is there an interesting story that goes with it? Did you pick it up cheap or pay the hefty price? Do you play it or does it sit on a shelf?
Thanks everybody!

There's a lot of games that are less than $1000 without a box, and over $1000 with a box...I'm not sure how many I have including protos/contest carts, but it's got to be pretty high...
Off the top of head..
CIB NTSC Stadium Events NES
CIB River Patrol 2600
CIB Out of Control 2600
CIB Video Reflex boxed with both games 2600
CIB Quadrun (this used to be 1K boxed)
Various Neo Geo games (Metal Slug 1, Ninja Masters, Neo Turf Masters, etc)
I know I have a few more, Darxide 32x CIB? Can't think this second...
There's not too many released in store non NWC/proto items worth 1K....

Well, my SNES MACS M16 light gun has got to be pretty close to that number. It probably is, though I've seen a few go for less than that. I dunno, that is the best I've got.

Actually that really depends on the type of proto it is (single level vs whole game), if its been dumped, and how different it is from possible released versions, not to mention what system its for. None of my proto's (including 2 that are unreleased) are worth anything close to that. But I digress...
I've got nothing that comes close to being worth that (1k). My US Yaroze can get me to about half that on a good day.
@ suckerpunch5;
The guy keeps selling more and more of them on ebay, so their value keeps coming down. The last one sold in the 500 range, not that i'm trying to take away from what it is, because its badass thats for sure (since I got see 98pacecar's at CGE).

Yeah.
PapaStu: Yeah, I know, every couple months, it seems like dheader will put another one up on ebay, and I've noticed the prices are going down. But there can't be THAT many (I think) and I'm thinking it will only increase in value. Of course, I could be totally wrong! It is really cool to play with though, and it is the only thing I have that even comes close to having anything that belongs in this thread!

Depends on what you count as a 'system'; you including [Candy] Cabs in that?
My rather lovely Naomi Universal upright cab with a full Sanwa 2L12B CP and a Naomi MoBo w/ GD Rom drive is worth well over a Monkey. The JoyRo 21s are up to about 500quid each too, once the tri-sync monitors are installed.
Oh, and I have a Japanese AES game called Metal Slug......

08-10-2007, 09:05 PM
Just a boxed Adventurevision and a complete RDI Halcyon. I don't think I have any actual games that would break that price point, but the complete Halcyon games might (not the disks that come up from time to time, but the disk and cartridge for them).
If you add in arcade machines, I have a South Park pin, Edot, and a Star Wars cockpit that all fall into this category. A couple others that come close, but unless the prices have spiked lately they would be below the 1k mark.

08-10-2007, 09:24 PM
I don't have much of anything that's been released that's worth remotely near the 1k mark. CIB Final Fight Guy and a new Border Down LE are about as pricey as I go. All of the protos that I've had that were worth anything have been pretty much completely devalued by this point.
DreamTR's collection scares me, btw.

Hmm speaking of games that worth a $1000.00
Does any body own Darius Alpha for the PCE ?
I know that game can reach that amount beside, MetalSlug for the neogeo aes.
Still can't say i own any thing worth that much.Well maybe my neogeo cmvs plus games could reach that amount.

Yeah, I think Darius Alpha is worth alot closer to $500 than $1000 these days. At least last time I saw it it was.
Only valuable piece of hardware I own is a PDO Xbox, which is a bit over $400 on a good day. I've got a couple of games over $200, but that's about it.

i used to own: CIB Video Reflex boxed with both games 2600 and the Foot Craz controller
i purchased it from a post in a usenet punk newsgroup. the seller was liquidating stuff aquired in an estate and that item obviously caught my eye. like most of my atari finds, i sold it off prior to ebay, but still got a decent price for it at the time.
i currently own: CIB Mr. Boston Vectrex
i purchased it in an Ebay auction (along with a dead CIB Vectrex, which didn't help keep the price down). both are in pristine condition. the sellers again were liquidators, not videogamers. my theory is that the game and unit were shipped as part of the Mr. Boston promotional campaign, the unit was DOA, so they both went into storage. luckily there weren't as many rabid "high roller" vectrex collectors around back then and i managed to get it for a "reasonable" price.
if you want to count "hardware" my CIB Vectrex US store display and "loose" Vectrex Dutch bubble stand probably fit into this category as well...
the crated US store display was purchased direct from an ebay seller. he had one unit on ebay and 2-3 more in his garage. i purchased one mid-auction and got a deal. the best part was that he lived within an hour of me and was able to deliver in person. the shitty part is that *maybe* i could have found that stash if i had been more dilligent in my searching :O
the dutch stand purchase was facilitated by a fellow collector from the Netherlands (who i owe several beers to) who alerted me to the sale. he then attempted to check on the item once on my behalf, to no avail due to a miscommunicato between the seller and his father who had the item. he went again and purchased it on my behalf with live negotiation (thank god for cheap international texting :) and disassembled it (a bit of a task), boxed it (another huge task) and sent it to me. okay, i owe him a keg of beer!
here is a photo of our two bubble stands together prior to shipping, mine is the one on the right: http://www.vectrex.nl/gfx/misc/PICT0880.JPG
and the rest of my vectrex collection are definately "priceless" :)

I own a board game worth $1000... it's called Supremacy... it's basically Risk with biological, chemical, and nuclear weapons... they made about a dozen expansion sets for it... and if you own them all, as I do, it's worth $1000... the game was only in print for 10 years, from 1984 - 1994... I paid about $300 to get a copy of it and all the expansion sets for it... now it's the single most valuable item that I own... so it was well worth the $300 investment!

Ah you're the fabled other complete owner ;)
Still if you ever decide to let go of it, look me up heh...
As for myself, I used to have a few but decided oh so recently to parse down parts of my collection and let others have them who would appreciate them as much as I had before. So today this is the only one in four figures still left I own...

Anyone own Virtual Bowling for VB? A few years back a sealed game sold for GBP 2000, which would be $4000 by todays money.
Also Atari's Cosmos sold for GBP 9000 a while back, which is like $18.000 (souce: RG (some older issue)).

Hmmmm, this is an interesting thread. I have
factory sealed Bubble Bobble 2 (worth well over $1000, probably closer to twice that)
DK competition cart complete gem mint (worth about $1000)
Gem mint with original box and all items in like new condition computrainer official racermate NES bundle (not sure of the value, don't know of any other complete MIB NES bundles. they sell for about $650 without box and manuals etc so I assume this is $1000 or so)
International Superstar Soccer for the SNES NTSC release factory sealed in absolutely gem mint flawless condition (no idea of the value on this)
International Superstar Soccer Deluxe for the SNES NTSC release factory sealed in absolutely gem mint flawless condition (no idea of the value on this)
Few others as well but they are a little under $1000.
EDIT: If you are counting the SNES Macs gun in there, then I have one of those too.

You know, I really can't see myself going out and spending $1000 or more on either a game or a system. I guess that's a sign I'm more of a gamer than a collector, or just not hard-core enough :) Well, actually, I would pay $1k+ for a couple things: Ms. Pacman / Galaga Class of 1981 Reuinion arcade machine and Twilight Zone Pinball are two that come to mind. Basically, I guess, arcade machines would be worth it, in my eye. And, possibly, Metal Slug for the AES, since that's one of my favorite games (but I already have the MVS version, so the only reason for getting it would be bragging rights).
Poofta!

Wow, amazing find Scalling. Congrats! You don’t have a picture of the CIB Mr Boston? Would be really fun to see it. Btw, have you bough the dutch bubblestand from vectrex.nl? I didn’t know he had two for sale (and I know the “other” one who bought one of them from there).

Whoa! I can't believe that you're in Ottawa! To think there is a Mr. Boston so close to me!
Anyways, on the $1000 game thing... I think I only have one.
I was offered $1,500 for my sealed copy of Hot Slots. I don't really think its worth that much, but I still didn't accept the offer (I didn't want to let it go). I'm sure it's worth $1,000, though.
I have several games that are above $500, but that's probably the only one about a grand.

My prototype 360 is probably worth over a grand.
Launch Team 360 w/ original packaging on a good day.
My PS2 TOOL.
My launch team xbox1 w/ the original packaging, 5 original games and 2 original controllers is probably worth slightly less then a grand.
I don't know what an Alpha Xbox1 goes for these days, probably less then a grand.
Panzer dragoon Xbox. (i could probably ask for, and get a grand for it; but it wouldn't sell quick)
2 prototype xboxes that would sell for a grand.
- One w/ an arcade connector. Only working model i know of.
- One is a DVT-3.5, a branch of hardware that was deemed unfeasible.
As for games, i have 4.
- Halo 1 debug build
- Dark Summit (Alpha xbox build, E3 2001)
- Simpsons Road Rage (Alpha xbox build, E3 2001)
- Dead or Alive 3 (Alpha xbox build, E3 2001)
Code that runs on an alpha system is harder to come by then the systems themselves.
I have some last gen unreleased games in various states. Prices are a moot point though, as i have no plans to sell.
I don't think Darius Alpha is worth that much.A complete one was marked down from 999Eu to 699Eu last November and it still ain't sold.
Well i own it for years, such as other items worth $1000 or more (Power League Gold Hucard,Virtual Bowling, etc..)..
Darius Alpha is worth $1000,even $1500 IF it is really complete like mine which means:
Game in box, with seleeve (THAT thing you see for $500-1000)
+ glasses
+ NEC Avenue winning/congratulations letter
+ NEC Avenue bubblewrapped envelope where all this stuff came from.

Damn, very nice stuff guys. My highest value items don't even approach over $200-- off the top of my head, I think CIB Panzer Dragoon Saga is my tops in value. However, I used to hide money from my wife in an old Duck Hunt cartridge. That thing was worth thousands.

Can't rightly say I have any systems worth more than about $200-$250...the CIB Korean version Halo Xbox, the Wii, and the TEST PS2 are what falls in that range. Games-wise, I have a few games in the $200-$300 range, but nothing more than that. I do have a small few NES protos, though...but probably none of them are worth even $250.

Okay, I normally post in the modern gaming forum so forgive the intrusion! I actually own the cartridge version of Metal Slug for Neo Geo AES system! It is the english version and it is probably the rarest game I own. I was there for awhile, thinking of selling it, but still held on to it after all these years! It, like most of my collection, is knee deep in my climate controlled storage unit. Thats where I hold all of my collection. If I can dig it up, I will post pics for you guys to see. It is in MINT condition and I only played it once! Great game, but its now over-released, as I have both versions of Metal Slug Anthology for the PS2 and the Wii.
Anyway, just though I'd share.
Interesting note: I did not pay that much for it (only about $350) which isn't bad for a Neo Geo game. In fact, I bought it from a now defunct company that used to advertise in the back of video game mags like EGM and Game Pro. Now, all the ads in video game mags are for body spray or Sprite! Give me a break-GOD I miss the good old days!

Don't own anything this incredible never actually spent more than close to a hundred dollars on a game and my 360 is the most expensive console i've owned. Do computers count cause I have several and I've spent thousands on each of them!? :)
If I were a big spender I'd have a neo geo mvs cab a neo geo home console and some metal slugs like whats mentioned here turf masters to. And some of these protos and limited edition systems sound great to.
Recently considered the halo 3 ultra limited edition but at 130 I just went for the limited at 70 and skipped the bigger box and action figures

If you wanted to see a higher return on your investment and you had the extra $50, you should of went with the Legendary Edition. Two years from now, every game store in town will have both the collectors and standard edition versions of Halo 3 sitting on their shelves brand new for less than $40 each! The Legendary edition is going to be rare! Then again, Microsoft said the same thing about the limited edition Halo Xbox system, and I see them everywhere. I own three of them, and they claim only 200,000 were released...
Like I believe their BS production numbers.....
I wonder how many Halo Xbox 360 systems are REALLY going to be produced....

No way, that's maybe worth half that.
What we have:
Grey NWC (If that's being counted)
CIB NTSC Stadium Events
Sealed Myriad 6-in-1 (Maybe, probably short $100-$200 from that benchmark)
We have a lot of games but not a lot of real huge ticket items.

A complete DKC comp cart is worth $500? are you kidding me? Brinn just had one end at $780 or so and that was the lowest one has gone for in a LONG time (his listings seem to all go really low for whatever reason). Bronty sold his on ebay for over $900. I also know of another sold for exactly $1000.
EDIT: I also forgot to mention I know of a complete one that was a traded for a sealed game worth at least $1000. Both people knew the value of the sealed game as well.
Also, your sealed Myriad is easily worth $1000 on the current market. More than that, in fact.

Vectrex US Display Stand CIB (One of the 2-3 from Canada as mentioned in an earlier post)
Sony PSP Test Tool
I have some other games that I bought in lots of 2 or 3 for over $1000, but I guess each they'd only be worth half or 1/3rd... But I consider them sets (like the gold-plated Mattel Football/Basketball games given out as awards... The two of them cost about $1000.)

the priciest thing I have is Panzer Dragoon saga so I'm nowhere close in the running. I could probably sell about 12 or so games out of my collection and get the $1000.

(like the gold-plated Mattel Football/Basketball games given out as awards... The two of them cost about $1000.)
Whoa...you have pics of them up anywhere?

The only thing I have system wise worth the 1k figure is my laseractive with PAC N1, N10, S1 and S10 modules. No idea what I would get on ebay for it (if I ever had a lapse of reason and wanted to part with it) since I have never seen a package with the four modules listed, but I suspect it would be well over the 1k figure.

Add to my list above:
- Hello Kitty Xbox
- Alpha build of Halo 2
You can probably take my PS2 TOOL off the list, they've fallen in price quite a bit.
PA, I just can't buy that the Hello Kitty Xbox is actually worth that much. I know what you paid for yours, but they're not *that* uncommon, at least in Singapore. I've personally seen a couple, and never more than a few hundred $$$.

Tell ya what, you find 'em for me and i can sell them all day long for 1000. I've already gotten offers for twice what i paid. Should it be wort that? Probably not, but i would have no problem selling them for that price.

I've got my NES Final Fantasy proto. I've had offers close to $1000 for it. I don't plan on ever selling it.

But of course! My avatar is one of them, but they are on my website here:
http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Mattel/Proto.html
As well as a 'prototype' soccer (more of a pre-release version or engineering I suppose)
There's a 'Trivia & Stories' link on that page as well that has a picture of the Basketball game (still mounted to a plaque) being awarded to Howard Cohen by several VP types of Mattel and Nat'l Semiconductor.

If you wanted to see a higher return on your investment and you had the extra $50, you should of went with the Legendary Edition. Two years from now, every game store in town will have both the collectors and standard edition versions of Halo 3 sitting on their shelves brand new for less than $40 each! The Legendary edition is going to be rare! ...

Deuce
Red Star
These two were dumped and widely availible. Not sure about the rest. Unless your copy of Deuce is for the PS2? Suposedly that was playable, but i haven't seen any evidence.
