View Full Version : Argh, help with a buyer...

This had to happen today. Just today.

So I listed this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=320160155279) last night. I figured no foreigners would bid on it. The auction information says "Ships to: United States". But somehow, a German buyer bought it.

(I just noticed eBay's stupid selling form unchecked the "block buyers from countries I don't ship to from bidding" option.)

So I lost around ten bucks in fees because he bought it. I already sent him a message saying that I can't ship this item to him because the auction says I only ship to the USA, and because he's in Germany and the item cannot be tracked (unless he pays like 100 bucks, since the package weighs close to ten pounds.)

What can I do in this case? I'm not sending this item to Germany. If it gets lost, I'd stand to lose hundreds of dollars. :(

Have you checked what confirmed (i.e. priority) shipping to Germany would cost? I thought there was a flat-rate option that wasn't too bad. Your only other option for getting your fees back are to try to get the buyer to go along with one of the options that refunds you, i.e. mutually agree not to complete. Then relist and pray it sells so you only get one listing fee charge... although I don't recall if BINs have that benefit.

Either send it or relist upon buyers agreement.

Is that software legal to export anyways? some productivity programs aren't.

Ask him to pay via something other than Paypal, like auctionchex.com

That's the problem. I think it'd get stopped at customs or something.

And there's a $30-odd Flat Rate now for international shipments, but they're STILL not trackable.

Anyway, problem solved - the buyer apologized and said he didn't notice, and he agreed to let go of the item. I guess I overreacted. :p

Thanks though.

How the hell does someone buy a $299.00 item with noticing that its to US bidders only. He either bid on purpose hoping you would sell it to him anyway or he is a complete idiot, not sure which one.

I recently had a French Canadian buyer win an auction. The US shipping was listed at 25.00, so he edits the shipping total to include 25.00 to canada.

I informed him EMS shipping is $55.00 and $25.00 was for the US only. He then gets pissy and says I could of sent it economy or airmail and the situation is my fault. Obviously, I can only ship i priority international or EMS both of which are way more then 25.00 USD.
