View Full Version : Is there a list of unreleased games for the Genesis?

IronBuddha

I ask this because years ago I had the Sega Channel and it would sometimes have demos of upcoming games, well there was a game I cannot remember the name for the life of me but it was a strategy/war kind of game, I remember back then I couldn't wait for it to come out so I can buy it but it was the near of the end of the Genesis and was never released to buy. I know it's a long shot since I can't remember the name but I was hoping maybe if there was a list it might pop back into my head if I read the name of it.
Like I said it's a long shot, but any help would be awesome!

the one war game I can think of that didn't make it to the U.S. was Cannon Fodder but I don't know if it ever got a Sega Channel test run.

Mega Man: Wily Wars is probably the most famous one.

Though, wasn't Alien Soldier also on Sega Channel at one point?

Indiana Jones greatest Adventures was ported by Factor 5 and reviewed in German magazines; however, it was never released.
Other never released games are Jelly Boy, Resq, Wacky Races, Sonic Eraser, Itchy & Scratchy, Ninja Gaiden.

Which is why it's listed in the Rumor Mill.

Yeah, there's tons more stuff to add into the Genesis Rumor Mill list - it'll happen eventually, but the focus for the last year or so has been on updating the 8-bit sections in advance of the forthcoming Classic book...

No it's not on there but thanks for the list.

Yes it was, I just checked it out and I remember playing this on the Sega Channel, but also it's not the game I'm looking for:(

was it turn based or in real time?

It was real time, I also remember the characters and other things like the tanks almost looked like the little lego guys, I also remember the demo only let you play the first 3 levels. I'm very positive that it wasn't released because I loved the game so much I wanted to buy it the very first day it came out, I would ask toy stores every week or so if there was a date and none of them ever even heard of it the entire time I asked. I wonder if maybe (another long shot) if there's some kind of record that shows what games were on the sega channel?

Wasnt Cannon Fodder canceled for the Genesis? If it was I wish it would have made it, becuase whenever I want to play that game, I have to get my Jaguar out of the box, then hook it up. It's a pain in the rear. I wish I had enough room to just have all my consoles hooked up at once so I wouldnt have to do that.

There is one not mentioned yet:

Pitfighter 2 by tengren

I saw a picture of in a Gameinformer issue that had Mortal Kombat on the cover in 1993. That issue had a listing of games and pictures from the 1993 Summer ces. I think it had to be started since game informer got a picture of the game in the megazine.

It must have been extremely close to completion, as it was even advertised in American magazines. There was going to be some additional content or something, but I couldn't tell you what exactly it would've been. I have no idea why it was canned.

Cannon Fodder was released for European Mega Drive. It's not all that rare or anything, and IIRC, it works fine on NTSC systems. Although, I would think that the Jaguar version has better graphics or something.

To the original question, could it have been Last Survivor?

I just looked into that and it's not it, Last Survivor looks like a RPG. This was a strategy war game. Also if it helps any it was kind of like Cannon Fodder with an above head view but closer, the characters were bigger.

Caliber 50?

No that's not it but that's a pretty good game lol. The game also worked like General Chaos, you had a team of 4-5 soldiers against another team of 4-5 soldiers.

Do we know how much of X-Women was completed before it got canned?

There were a few pics of it in several magazines back then.

Sorry it still bugs me to this day!

Like I said previously you could also get into tanks, and I'm almost positive the objective was to destroy the enemy's base before they destroy you. The game had a different look, like everything was blockish (still reminds me of legos).

Sorry to be a pest but man I'd love to play this game again!

No that's not it.

I remember it had a lot to do with building a base and protecting it, also destroying the other bases (I think you could play 2 player go against each other but not 100% sure on that) and the way you built the base reminded me of legos.

I swear to you guys I don't smoke crack! The only thing I'm not completely sure is if it was just a demo, a PAL game or even it could have been released and I just couldn't find it around here.

It would be so easy to find if there was a Sega Channel archive somewhere, then all I'd have to do is look up all of the demo's they had until I found it.

Even my friend remembers the game but not the name of it! It's crazy after all of these years later and the game still haunts me!

Warner Cable apparently used to have information on the games that were going to be released on sega channel that were available at their business locations. Like what would be available the next month or so.

But as far as I know, i don't know if there are any scans available online from warner cable.

When did you play it exactly? So if there are listings, what month and year should we look for?

If I could remember exactly what year and month I played it, I think I would be able to remember the name of the game ROFL

But trust me if someone finds it archived some how, I'll go through every bit of it, I don't care how big it might be.

Thanks everyone for the help so far! It has helped and some people have pointed out some other cool games I'm really liking!

Although it was definitely released, that description sounds like Rampart.

No that's not it either, I didn't know Rampart was on the Genesis until you just now mentioned it.

I mention the bases but I also mentioned you get into tanks and I think there was other methods of destruction.

Here's a video I found on youtube about the Sega Channel (It's probably been posted before) Link (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sMRLZcBiN-k)

I paused every time it went into a list of games but still no luck! But it helped me remember ExoSquad which was a game I use to kill!!!

I remember the print ads for the Genesis version of Lufia and how I wanted to get it. The other game I saw ads for that I wanted really bad was Star Odyssey by Sage's Creation.

Edit: Cannon Fodder also came out for the 3DO as well as the Jaguar.

So does anyone know? The title says unreleased games but maybe it came out under radar, it was towards the end the Genesis so maybe is there a list of the last 50 or so games that came out to the US? Or even better is there a list of what games came out for each month of the Sega Channel?

Sorry if I'm a little persistent/annoying but I really would love to play this game again! Me and my friend use to play it for hours and it was just a demo!

Here is the egm preview of Pit Fighter 2. It's from the August 1993 issue, and has Aero on the cover. I just happened to randomly download this from Retromags recently...

Some other games that haven't been mentioned include Baby Boom, Congo, Slam - Shaq vs. the Legends (best intro ever), Baby's Day out, Captain Planet, combat aces, Command and Conquer, Dominus, Jelly Boy, Prince of Persia 2, scrabble, waterworld, and wild snake. I'm just browsing my beta folder. There's a few more Japanese ones I didn't mention, but the rest are at Hidden Palace. I think we all owe DRX a beer...

...and Mallrats, although I don't think that one ever got off the ground. I would've snapped that up (for $5) in a heartbeat based on novelty alone. Pity, I wanted to hear what "Snootchy Bootchies" would sound like over an AM radio...

I've got extensive video of the Pit-Fighter II game in action from the 1993 CES. I may be one of the few people who really enjoyed the original game on the Genesis so I was excited to see the sequel. All I have to do now is get that camcorder tape transferred to DVD. Seeing the ad above is incentive!
