Over the years I have amassed a rather large amount of magazines (which I would not want to get rid of....yeah pack rats unite!) Right now I am storing them on these bare entertainment shelving units which served their purpose in the past but now I have so many its getting a bit ridiculous (they really arent meant to store magazines on) its gotten to the point where I just throw my magazines whever and I end up slipping on them on the floor.
I would love to have an actual magazine shelving unit like they have in stores but space does not permit that (eventhough I could make room if I could track one down). How do you guys store your magazines? in boxes? some kinda shelves or racks? if you have pictures, links to websites to buy storage, or even retail stores I would love to see, and of course the more affordable the better!

I have a shelf on my bookcase for strategy guides, just lining them up works fine for me.
But for the magazines I have I use something like this http://www.fellowes.com/Fellowes/site/products/ProductDetails.aspx?Id=6100101

That's what I use too. You can get them pretty cheaply at Office Depot.

Do they come any larger than that? seems like each one doesnt store too many magazines (atleast the one in the link) also about how much they go for each at office depot? if you remember.

They store a good amount of magazines. I'd say you could fit 10-12 if you tried (especially if they're small like old Nintendo Powers).
Checking officedepot.com, they want around $10 for the cheap ones :-/ Check stores like K-Mart, they should have them cheaper. I have plastic ones, but if you need to buy a bunch you can always get cardboard ones.

You can buy exta-wide, stiff plastic ones at Office Depot, I think they came in two packs and were $10 or so. I used them for storing Retro Gamer magazine.

I've always wanted to get the official Nintendo Power magazine holders. Those would look ace with my huge collection, which currently resides partially inside a big cardboard box and partially stacked on top of it. Gets the job done, but it ain't too pretty. For other magazines, which I don't have quite as many issues for, I tend to just put them on a bookshelf mixed in with strategy guides and other gaming books.
Well, besides Video Game Collector, which I have pouring out everywhere. :P

I use the plastic ones like this and they work great. I think I got them at Walmart and they were way cheaper than any of the office supply stores. It's been awhile, but I think I was getting 2 packs for $5 or something like that. I know I would not have paide more than $3 each, so you might start by checking your Wally worlds.

The bulk of my game mag collection is on the bottom two shelves of one of those Sauder bookshelf units. I've got enough that they hold each other in place upright and a majority of my older mags are in clear magazine polybags so the pages don't shift when I grab an issue out. This is great for my VG&CE mags as the staple binding isn't that strong and covers tend to rip away easy.
Most of my modern mags are stored in wide greenbar printer paper boxes, standing upright within them.
I thought about using the magazine storage deals you see in libraries in such but unless you protect the mags and store them tightly side by side, the mags might tilt to either side or get damaged from trying to slide them back into the container.

Mine are on a bookshelf I got at OfficeMax. I don't buy newer mags anymore, since they suck, so I don't have too much of an issue with space.

I use boxes as this (in my case for copy paper, we have a lot of theese on the job:-).

And I like them. Easy to find what I am searching (just browse...) and they store a lot. Maybe not look so good, but I guess one can custom them in diffrent ways.
I sleep on them....
honest: 36 boxed (12 in a row, 3 high) filled with computer and gaming magazines, approx 2500 magazines in total, mattress on top, yep it's my bed.

I use top-load magazine holders and then store them on shelves. They are just like the ones used for baseball cards only larger.

I store about 5400 game/computer mags on eight Billy bookshelves:
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/83688210
I bag and board only the ones that have any real monetary value to them, as well as all of my VG&CEs, since as a previous poster noted they're extremely flimsy. But I have to be careful because the ferrets like burrowing into plastic bags...

I use magazine bags, boards, and boxes that you can get at any good comic book store.

They also make these plastic things that you slip half the magazine pages into letting you put them in a 3 ring binder. You can get quite a few in 1 binder and then just put them on a bookshelf. The magazines themselfs will now act sort of like a book. I've been considering doing this to organize my guitar magazines and making a table of contents of sorts to put in the front of the binder.

Go down to your local comic book store. The sell acid free storage boxes and poly-bags. You can, if you want, also find some acid free backing boards that will keep them from bowing.

Yup.
The important magazines (ie my Gamefan collection) are bagged and boarded and sit vertically (never stacked; reduces or eliminates spine rolling) in a magazine box. All purchased at my local comic book store.

Only thing to remember is that not all comic shops carry poly bags large enough for some magazines. My local comic shop just had comic size and not magazine size, same with the boxes. A larger one forty miles away carried actual magazine sized bags but not the larger "Time Life" sized bags for my Official Dreamcast magazines.

I have mine in boxes similar to these. They get the job done, and it's not hard to dig through them if I'm looking for a particular issue.

I use tech files for my magazine subscriptions but for my older mag collections I have them put inside plastic bags(shopping style) that are stored in boxes.

Bags, cool, I hadn't found any oversized bags before... But what about boxes? For instance...

Checking that site for oversized supplies, I find this page:

...but still no oversize boxes. Does anyone know where one might find something like that? I've been using copy-paper boxes, but they're not ideal.

Most of my mags are stored in a cardboard box in my dad's workshop. They're from 04 and newer but not worth much.
Some older ones I've gotten that I want to keep nice are in the strategy guide pile in my room, and the older magazines I haven't boxed yet are too.
My shonen jumps are lined up vertically on a bookshelf with my mangas.

I've got a rather humble collection of PSM/OPM issues (which I'm desperately trying to get rid of, btw, PM me if you want em!!) that I have had in a plastic bin for almost 5 years now. They're all still in as great condition now as they were when I first got them. I tend to store them cover down, and then alternate as I stack them so as not to cause an uneven stack that will topple over.

I do the exact same thing. I had a bunch of Playstation mags and I keep em in a plastic bin with lots of little stacks so they don't bend in a odd way and fall over. They are also in pristine condition seeing as how they haven't been touched for many many years.

I use the large poly bag and board method. I also got a magazine box similar to the comic boxes that come with a lid and had handles on the side.

You might want to poke around at the library supply sites (Demco, Brodart, Gaylord etc.) - look at princeton files and cut corner files - they come in metal, plastic and cardboard.
The only sizeable magazine collection I have is Nintendo Power - a complete run (with the exception of 2 or 3 of the very first ones) up until the demise of SNES. If I was gonna have them accessible I use these:
http://www.shopbrodart.com/shop/cb/product.aspx?pgid=1213
Having worked in a library for decades, these are the easiest for fishing out what you want (conversely I don't like them for library use - it is too easy for the public to mess everything up - but for home use I would go with these).

Mine are almost all piled up in drawers in the game room. I do have one row of older EGMs and VG&CEs on a bookshelf as well.
I just got this spinner for $100 shipped from eBay. It has 24 pockets, and each pocket can hold around 8-10 magazines (or just three or four of the really thick, older EGM's). I regret getting this, as I will need at least three more. Should have gone with Ikea's shelves.

that spinner rack would be pretty sweet if it had the "Hey Kids! Comics!" sign on top. I like to keep my MAGs flat so i have them laying flat on book shelfs. Divided by title oldest on bottom most recent on top. spine facing out.

I've always kept my mags very neatly stacked upon one another forming magazine towers. I recently finally realized, it would be better to shelve them sitting upright, and they look a lot better and are more practical to read this way. I'll take some pics and share later. ;)

I use my trash can to store them. only the really old issues are worth anyhing and even then they arnt worth a lot, unless you have a nintendo power issue #1 might as well throw them out imo. I had like hundreds of NP and EGM mags thought they were worth money i looked it up... they were worth about as much as the paper they were printed on so i just toss my mags from now on, plus they take way too much space for an item that gets looked at once and never touched again.

Wow that's too bad. Older EGM's from the late 80's until around 1994 are actually worth $3-10 per issue on average, not including shipping...
GameFans are worth $3-5 on average.
Actually most videogame mags from the 80's until the early 90's are worth atleast $2-5 each. I'm not just pulling these numbers from thin air. ;) I'm a big videogame mag fan and collect them / know what they are worth.

What they are worth is besides the the point, for me at least. I'm a collector and collect to collect. Pac-Man and ET for the 2600 aren't worth anything either, but I also wouldn't throw them out.

To contain my hundreds of magazines I use dozens of tech files. They hold between 10-16 mags a piece and only cost about $2 at Walmart, although they might be going up in price soon.
