I'm sure it won't be long after release before someone's wired a cart socket in or put their own selection of games on an eeprom.

Looks promising. The TV-Out feature is interesting too. If it uses a better graphics chip then the original SMS, then this device may be the key to solving the "Game Gear On A Television" riddle that has eluded modders all these years. I've got a buddy in nearby Bolivia who might be able to get me one on the cheap.

...put their own selection of games on an eeprom.
Wow, how did this term get spread around so much? EPROMs and EEPROMs are different, with EEPROMs being able to hold only up to 32kbytes of data (a very small amount). For everything else, there are EPROMs.

Sorry, can you clarify? True, the Genesis can play SMS games, but it can't display GG games correctly.
And as for portable Game Gears, there's already this:

And two GG-on-a-TV solutions have been available to modders for a while now:

A wonderful example for favoring free trade.
Brazil has something lik a 40% tarrif on imported video games to protect their crappy domestic gaming industry.

60%, to be exact.
However, Microsoft has been released Xbox 360 officialy around here, and they sell games too.
Nintendo has stoped to produce games and consoles in Brazil about 6 or 7 years ago (they started in 1993 releasing NES, SNES and GB classic, though N64, GameCube and GBA was released at their time).
Sony never came to Brazil, obviously 'cause that piracy (and probably will never do it).
Tec Toy try to sell all those trash, like Mega Drive and Master System without cartridge slot, with many games on memory, etc.
Yeah, pretty sad. :)
