I always seem to leave my carts plugged into all my systems so they are "ready to go" next time I want to play. Could this be bad for the system or game? I'm guessing no on most of the systems except maybe for the original NES because of the problems with the connector. Any thoughts?

I know that if you leave games in for extended periods of time and especially in moist areas that you can actually cause the cart contacts to rust to the system pins. Other than that I think that other then putting extra strain on the contacts you would cause no damage. That might cause the contact pins to wear out over time but I have seen no examples of that yet.

In theory, it's bad for all systems because over time, the cart PCB would be holding the connector contact away from normal resting position and eventually it won't spring back. IOW the connector would eventually become loose.

Realistically, it's never happened to me. Aside from the NES, I've left carts for as long as 3 or 4 years with no ill effect. heck, I have a couple of 20 year old PC whose card has never been pulled out of the ISA slots all of its life and still worked last time I checked.

I agree with CrazyImpmon. In theory it would be bad, but I don't have any problems with it.

The only time I ever take a game out is when I'm switching it with another. So far none of my systems have been affected by this.

I only leave a cart in the console if I know I'm definitely gonna be playing it the next day.

Generally I put away all the carts/CD's at the end of the day - makes everything look neater anyway!

Put them on a UPS and power concerns are a nonissue.
