I have a question for you ghost, do the enemies chase you or do they flock to the bases? If I went to the middle of the grid would they chase me so I could lure them away from my bases?

They attack the bases. You have to plan your startegy as to which base to cover first then watch to see where they go as the game proceeds.

I go after the triple groups first, and try to shoot them down quickly, using the least amounts of shots. Each miss costs you points, so don't shoot wildly.

Here's a few more, got the first two on Starmaster. Got 49,905 on Pressure Cooker. I am learning how to play Private Eye now and still trying to get a few more on Starmaster.

I haven't posted in awhile. I just attained this score for the AA HSC, so I thought I'd post it here as well:

Frostbite: 241,380.

Only a few days left! Can't wait to see how this finishes out! :)

COME ON BOYS!!!! Look what the cat dragged in now!!

Seriously what a frustrating game even though easy once you map it. you still only have a second or two once finished.

I missed Beamrider by less than 2,000 points so I'll finish that one tonight. I will have a few more by the end of the contest as well. Unless someone steps up third place is all mine.

All done on my original light sixer pictured below in the second post. Since I got such a late start I didn't have time to try for better scores on them and a few others I didn't achieve the required scores for. I'll try to add more later today.

I'm kicking myself now for not starting the contest early. I know now that with a bit more practice I would have every patck. I started figuring out how to get the harder Starmaster patches and I highest before yesterday on Dolphin was 115,000 but I played it again and got 193,000. A huge improvement and I'm sure I could have maxed it out. I enjoyed the contest now that it's over and it looks like my third place held. Vectorman0 I would love to do another similar contest like this one, perhaps even for all the 2600 Activision titles that didn't have a patch would make another interesting competition. Thanks to everyone who participated.

Even though I burned out a couple of weeks ago, I just wanted to thank Vectorman again for facilitating this contest. It was hella fun and gave me a reason to explore a lot of carts in my collection which had previously only been collecting dust.

Great contest Vectorman. I'd love to do another one like it.

I loved this as well. In the entire three months, I only found time on two occasions to play and strive for the patches, but the 6-switch is still hooked up with three neat stacks of Activision games next to it, and I'm going to continue playing as real-life allows, and try to get more of the patches, even though the contest is officially over.

Once again, thanks VMan, for an outstanding contest.

Any idea who won the Random Prize? MY scores never ended up on the spreadsheet so I don't even know if I'm even in the running.:-/

I'm glad you all enjoyed the contest as much as I did. I thank you all for playing. I couldn't have asked it to turn out better. There was a steady stream of playing throughout the contest, even if I was slow at updating the spreadsheet at times. The spreadsheet is currently up to date now with the final contest standing. Again, I ask for everyone to double check for mistakes of any kind. I will be making a list of the rankings and such later, along with a list of the prizes. I will probably do the random drawing in a few days. Unfortunately I have had some hiccups along the way and don't have the Mystery 2600 carts ready, but rest assured I am still working on getting them done ASAP. I can send out the other prizes now or when the carts are done, the winners will have the choice.

DarthKur, don't worry, you're definitely in the running for the random drawing. I was very happy to see you get so many patches so near to the end.

And for everyone else who wants to continue playing, I encourage everyone to keep going for patches, even if there is no prize at the end other than bragging rights. I could even make another spreadsheet to keep patch standings past the end of the contest. I know I still have some I would like to get, and maybe one day I will even be able to get the ones that seem impossible for me now.

Thanks again Vectorman0!

This was a very fun contest, and it got me to play a few of those Activision games that used to just sit idley on my shelf.

Congrats to everyone else that participated, especially deteacher, for keeping me on my heels!

I'm a little disappointed I didn't actually attempt any of these (I don't have a 2600 hooked up currently), but if Vectorman wants to pick another random winner, I'll let them pick three games (chuck norris and artillery duel combo cart would count as two) from the atari 2600 section of my for sale list as a second random prize. If you want to do this, Vectorman, you can direct the random winner to my sale list http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=114561 and have them pick out 3 atari 2600 titles and have them give me their address. Nothing super rare in that list but there are some uncommon titles left and hopefully some stuff not everyone has. I figure the few bucks for shipping will be my punishment for not taking part in this contest and motivate me for the next contest like it.

Over the past couple days I have made quite a bit of progress towards having all of the carts fully completed. I apologize for the delays, but it will be worth the wait once they are done!

I appreciate the offer, but I think I will pass. I actually have a second random prize of my own already. I encourage you to go for the patches, even if there is no potential prize. I'm still trying to come up with something that is cheap and easy for me to procure and then give away that would be enough encouragement for continued participation even though the original contest has ended.

I assume that those are the two special carts you've been working on. Have you decided whom the two lucky entrants are to receive them yet?
On a side note I would like to cast my vote for the effort to gain more patches to continue. As long as others would like to as well I think it would be fun. I finally qualified for Kaboom!, after many, many tries.:-D

I'll be making a post after this one to announce the prizes. I just have to do the random drawings.

If more people want to keep on going for patches, I think it would be great. If there was enough interest, I would make another topic and then get a duplicate of the spreadsheet that could be updated further (so the final standings could be maintained elsewhere). If anyone else is interested in this, speak up!

Congratulations to all the winners! Thanks again Vectorman0 for throwing this contest. The best part was getting us all off our asses to really play all these great and even the few not so great Activision games (I'm looking at you Grand Prix!).

Cheers,

Vectorman, you are awesome! Thanks again for running this contest. Not only did it respark an interest to play some of the best games ever, but it also motivated me to learn how to play some of the "not as famous" titles. What a great ride! :)

Thanks a ton for the great prizes, it was a great time. I would love to keep going for patches as well. Are you giving a new spreadsheet for the rest of the games? I have an idea for another contest, we could do a patch style contest for every Activision game that didn't have a patch. We'd just have to set the scores that should be attained and then go for it. I would love to pitch in for some prizes as well.

No, they have not. I've been very negligent in getting the carts made up and prizes sent out. For that, I apologize. I've have excuses, but I won't bother anyone with them here. I've embarrassed myself. I'm not "that guy" who doesn't follow through, even if I am taking forever. Please accept my apology.

InsaneDavid, I'm going to send you a PM.

No need to apologize, I should understand more than most how stuff comes up and life gets in the way. :) (take a look at the current issue of Retrogaming Times Monthly, which is very lean and missing any contributions from me :embarrassed:) I remember reading the thread where you were discussing making cartridge labels with Frankie_Says_Relax and figured that it would only be fair for all prizes to be sent out only after they all were ready. I was playing some Grand Prix tonight and the contest came to mind, which is why I looked up this thread. I'll reply to your PM in just a moment.

Once the top prize cartridges are made please post some pictures, I'd love to see how they turned out.

Thanks again!
