No problem. This topic has actually renewed my interest in Nintendo Power.

The sad part is, it's still just glorified stock art. The first 20 or so NPs had the best covers, as the art was all created by the staff.

Yeah a lot of people lost intereste in Nintendo Power..and now this thread has kind of sparked interest..you should get paid by Nintendo for marketing their magazine..LOL..
I remember as a kid visiting this local video store (which was bigger then Blockbuster) and they had some ad posted on the counter (cannot remember to this day why, mabye for subsriptions) with the first Nintendo Power picture on it..I wanted that magazine so bad for the longest time due to the cover art..made out of clay..definately a good magazine in the 90's..can't say I have picked one up to read or skim through lately however..

Thanks for the list Rob. being a collector of NP, I really appreciate a thread like this. Iam only missing 31 issues, and I'll use this as a checklist.
Also I just received issue 225 in the mail today, it has "Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood" for the DS on the cover.
I might be able to help you with the missing issues. Hit me up - I sell them on eBay but might be able to work out a deal for a fellow Canuck!

If you look around torrent sites, there's a torrent that contains all of the player guides, a few of the Fun Club issues and the first 175 or so issues of Nintendo Power. I downloaded and kept most of it - up through the SNES era, that is.
It just has the cover art for each of those magazines, right? Surely somebody didn't scan every page of every magazine!?!
Could you direct me to said torrent?

I'm not sure of the specific torrent being talked about here, but it's fairly common for people to scan entire magazines for download.

Wow, I'd like to get my hands on that. I sold my NP collection about a year ago just because I was tired of storing them, but it would be nice to have digital copies of every magazine. Especially the older ones, there were some good maps and stuff for older games.

I think it'd be neat if they did another clay figure cover for their 300th issue, or some other milestone. Maybe even give more of the magazine a slight retro-feel for that month. (Even they should know that every once in a while, the retro fans should be indulged, considering things like the new classic Megamans.) I remember in the 100th issue they brought back a small Nester comic, although it was by another artist and was generally a bit weak, at least the thought counted.
That said, I'm reminded that it's one of my goals to own decent-quality versions of NP #1-100, which I'll probably get back to later this year or next. Those were fun times of the magazine, and I already have a fair amount of them, so it wouldn't be too incredibly painful(or too much more difficult to store)..
Although I wonder if there would be better ways of storing them than in cardboard boxes, which are a pain to dig through.. How does one store large numbers of old magazines while keeping them safe, but space efficient and not incredibly difficult to find/get the one you're after?

You can get polybags, backing boards and binders in standard magazine size. If you ever plan on selling/trading your collection, you'll want to get a box to store them in, most comic shops won't give you anything near a fair price if you come in with a binder.

Curious. Why's that?
Binders are associated with casual collectors (usually children), who are less interested in grade/condition and just want a display to store their books between readings.
Bagged and boarded books are associated with the collector who is far less likely to repeatedly read the issues over and over, therefore the books are more likely to be in a better condition.
Faulty logic can apply to either scenario, I know. But, I'm more likely to give someone a better price if they bring me a collection that has been stored in an acid-free box, bagged and boarded than I would if someone brings me a binder full of books that may or may not have been handled by an adult.

What he said.
A friend of mine has some little box like thing that I'd never seen before a few months ago. It's basically a little box that is standard comic size and made of leather, with a slip on the front. He uses it to move comics from the shop to his home.

There are actually two distinctly different covers for this issue. I'm having trouble finding a decent image of the other, but I'll upload it when I do.
EDIT: So, after poking around a bit, I'm seeing that, at some point in the last year or so, they started routinely putting out two different covers for each issue. See, it used to be that issues bought on the shelve had a full size image with writing all over it on what can be found in that issue. Subscribers got the same issue, but the cover image was smaller and unobstructed, with a footer under it showing the headlines. Apparently, each edition now has a separate image. I'll look into going back over all my posts from the last few months and see if there are differences.

December, 2007 .. Future Media has been in charge since then. Recently they have been cutting staff and considering dropping video game publications altogether. Just my guess, but this might be the last year of a physical magazine for Nintendo Power. First issue of the year covers both January/February.. not a good sign.
edit: found a link that indicates Future Media plans to publish 11 issues this year (instead of usual 13) so I guess the fact that the Kid Icarus issue #275 reads "January/February" is not an indication that the mag is going bi-monthly.
